2011 SS2/RS questions
Hi, say I just bought a 2011 Camaro SS convertible 26,500 miles on it, and so for I really like it . I bought it for pleasure driving only , and maybe some short 2-3 day trips. No racing , No mods no DD. Boring huh? I have been restoring and modifying old cars and trucks now I am burned out on that hobby. Just want to drive fast and enjoy my in my last days. A few questions if you don't mind.
1 I keep reading about $100.00 oil changes on the gen 5 Camaro's, why so much. 2 my Car Fax report states " Maintenance inspection completed Convertible Top replaced/repaired" this was at 3,507 miles. so did they have the top leaking problem that early? 3 The oil Life that tells you to change to change to oil, is that accurate and reliable? Sorry for the long post . Appreciate any all comments . Thank you steven |

I have the maintenance plan at Chevy....so don't pay for oil changes....but they normally cost around $80....synthetic oil.
2011 and 2012 vert there were problems with the tops...5th bow....leaking issues. There is a class action lawsuit against GM

Yeah, my dealer charges around 100 $ for an oil change. I let my oil life get to around 30% then I change it. Usually 5-6k miles.

When I picked up my car on May 12, 2011, there was another convertible that had a broken 5th bow. Some of them had problems very early.

My dealer only charges 50 bucks for synthetic oil change and 20 bucks for normal.

$100 per oil change sounds right. It's 6 quarts of synthetic. I usually change it at 30% life (5-6k).
My fifth bow bent at around 3k miles. It's been good ever since. The leaking can be an issue. Make sure the water bag is not folded or out of place and the drain tube is not clogged and you'll be fine. Enjoy the vert. It's a fun daily driver. |

6 qts of Mobil-1 but if you do your own you can get at Wal Mart for about $30, maybe less now that oil price is down. Plus filter. A little pricey, but not bad at all for a high perforamnce car. Used to drive a Mercedes C230 C-Class that kept us in the poor house after the complimentary maintenance expired - $250 for A service and $500 for B service whenever the lights came on - which was often, as it was a daily driver commuter. Loved the feel of that car, but dropped it like a hot potato soon after.

8 quarts to fill the crankcase. 8.
synthetic is required. these two reasons add up to the higher price for an oil change. don't sweat it. enjoy the car. |
