Dude gets hit head on in his 3 week old E70 X5

http://www.x5world.com/x5-e70-forum/...t-totaled.html

And walks away!!! The driver who hit him was in a Ford Taurus, she had a few broken bones and a fracture or two. Don't know that we'd be this safe in a 5th gen, I most certainly hope so. Funny enough another car I'm considering is the 135i coupe.

Good for her, I'm glad she's alright.
But apart from the people in that forum, I account 50% of her safe-exit, and the other woman's injurys to the fact that She was in an SUV. The other 50% to the Airbags. Just because it's a "BMW" doesn't make it safer, it's a combination of airbags, and body-engineering.

But either way, It's nice to know she's okay. Too often do I hear of fatal accidents, from less of an impact. It's good to know one got away.

nice find DerScotsman

Well, I do believe BMW's(among many other makes) are engineered to a very high standard, higher than others. You do get what you pay for.

Yes, for 2-3 years max. Then after that you better have deep pockets to keep it on the road. They cost a fortune in maintenance. I'm a huge BMW fan but I would only lease one.

Holy #@#@! That is pretty messed up! When I walk up to a car like that on the HWY, fire is usually there prying someone out who is unconscious or screaming in pain. That is VERY impressive that she walked away unscathed. Kudos to BMW. I'd send them pix of the car and let them in on the story. It'd make for some great press on BMW's safety and sell a few more of their cars.

whats with all the baggin on bmw's maintenance , with the exception that yes i know the parts are expensive... their current new car program is 4 years 40k free regular maintenance! No other car company gives you oil changes, brake pads ect free!

Besides BMW isn't the only one with expensive parts.. what about VW and the bug? last i heard you needed a good mechanic to work 2 hours to change a head light bulb since its so packed in there...

Oh and I don't like BMW cars personally just don't know where the angst is coming from.

OMG:eek: that was crazy!! I'm glad that person came out fine and unhurt.

As far as maintainence goes for a BMW as urbanlegend said I would only lease one because once it becomes 5-6 years old the car gets a good wear and tear so a lot of the high tech gizmo's and features break down. That costs A LOT of money and if you want to fix it yourself, you should just sell the car unless you are a BMW mechanic.

Dodge offers Free oil Changes, last I checked. And now chrysler offers a free full-powertrain-checkup every 5 years

Actually just announced, Dodge is offering full drivetrain for the life of the vehicle (with the original owner). There's a thread somewhere.

I'm sorry, but that's B.S. A BMW costs no more to maintain than a Lexus or Acura. Parts aren't all that expensive, the only rub is that you have to stay on top of the maintenance- you can't let a thing slip. Otherwise it's just one thing compounded on top of another. I think people are generally alarmed by German cars because they seem too good to be true, but truth is, you get what you pay for.
