Exhaust clamps

Need to replace the clamps that come with Speed Engineering headers today. I'm looking at a 5" lap joint at a local shop I can pick up. Anyone know if 5" is too large?

It's about 2" too large. Look for a 3" band clamp or a 3" lap joint band clamp for a better seal

I've looked all over town for a 3" lap joint, but unfortunately nothing. I'll probably use a band clamp with RTV

I would think 5" would be to big. If you have amazon prime they have all different sizes on their website and it only takes a couple days to get your clamps. That won't help you out tho if you need the car put together today.

Not even close to being able to tighten and do anything.

Well I changed the speed engineering clamps out with some 3" band clamps. I can still feel small puffs of air around the clamps. Any ideas what to try next? ...or is the small air puffs normal? Guess Ill end up ordering some high quality clamps

Don't worry you are not alone. I have those clamps that came with it tighened all the way down over the slip fit, collector area.
I have puff's coming from a specific area, I can see how the clamp is not sealing if I look from the front.
I am considering just having them welded in place. I hate that idea from a removal and install perspective down the road though.
I have heard of a couple of options. 3" band lap joint clamps from summit, etc.

I honestly think some of this has to do with the angle of the slip fit to the existing exhaust system. For instance it appears that the headers maybe sit a little higher so the angle is slightly off which is also preventing the clamp from fully doing its job.

I ended up taking the clamps off and wrapping the pipes in exhaust tape really tight. Then used some 3" band clamps and it's finally holding.

When I put mine on the NPP system was about 2inches too wide to line up with the headers but was just fine with the cat deletes. I think the pressure the cat back is putting on the collectors is what makes mine have those little puffs out the front. OP, I went to advanced auto, got some 3inch band clamps that were 12 bucks a piece and got it as best I could.

If you replace the supplied nuts and bolts with hardened nuts and bolts the Speed Engineering supplied clamps work much better, that is what I did.

I bought a pair of these instead: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FITS-Catback...53.m2749.l2649

Doesn't look like it in the picture, but I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived and I discovered they were a polished stainless steel. From looking, you wouldn't know they weren't part of the kit. They fit perfect, and best of all, NO LEAKS!

Had these on my 06 GTO with SLP longtubes and Loud Mouth II. Could never get them to seal up and tighten well. Wound up welding the whole thing. Glad you are having success with those.
