Exclamation Blackstone Labs OIL report at 1270 miles...

As reported on homepage.

Hey everyone!

Most of the time I do an oil report from Blackstone Labs on a few of my cars to see what is going on inside, kinda like blood work Anyway, for the heck of it, I sent in my first oil sample from the new Camaro, at it was at 1270 miles. Here is what the oil experts had to say:

We typically find a lot of metals and silicon in the oil from new engines. The metals are from new parts wearing in while the silicon is from lubes and sealers used during engine assembly. All should decrease after future oil changes, with copper taking the longest to settle down. Oil filtration (see insolubles) was excellent and we did not find any moisture, coolant, or gasoline in the oil. This type of V-8 takes its time wearing-in so we suggest short (~1500-mile) oil changes as a steady diet up to ~10,000 miles. This should be a nice engine for you.

I can send the file to someone w/ ALL of the metal wear stats, ect. This is a very nice lengthy report, and if you are interested in seeing all the metal wear, info, ect. just send me a PM.

I have been using Blackstone Labs since 99 and they have been right on every time....

Thought I would share

I would be interested in seeing the full file as well, and will see about getting mine done as well after a) break-in and b) after 5,000 km

I'm breaking mine in with measured run-ups in 2nd gear and then backing off the gas and letting the engine slow down the car with engine braking. I changed the oil and filter at 65 miles to clear out the metals and junk that were in there from assembly at the plant. I switched to non-synthetic to aid in the break-in and because I'm going to change it again at 1500 miles. The synthetics are too good and can actually interfere with engine break-in and rings seating properly.

Another reason for changing the oil and filter at 65 miles was to make sure I wasn't circulating those metals and stuff through the engine and everything else while breaking in the engine. At 1500 miles I'll change to a synthetic; break-in will be done by then.

Blackstone is EXCELLENT! I used them for both my 98 and 02 WS6's. I had 165k on the 98 when sold in Feb. The LSX engines are great if you take care of them. She didn't blow any oil, burned none and the reports came back excellent up until last check at 158k.

Pennzoil Platinum oil, K&N/Mobil1 filters and changed every 5-7k. Broke it in hard and never babied her.

Excellent info. I changed mine at 900miles and then again at 5000 miles, so a little late for me to do the 1500 mile thing. But this Mobile 1 Syhetic isn't cheap ! Thanks again, nice stuff.

I've seen this on other automotive and motorcycle forums. It seems logical. Will I void my warranty if I take out the synthetic? Once I hit 1500 miles I'll replace with synthetic again.
