One thing I've refused to do in all my top speed runs...is start taping things up, removing mirrors etc etc.
And it's hilarious when my 35 year brick shaped junker still blows away most of the modern aerodynamic cars with all their bits taped up, wipers, mirrors etc removed LOL IMO I will always run the car in pretty much exactly the same state as it is driven to the event, with maybe just a tyre change. Can the tape really make a difference ? Presumably that front splitter can go much lower ? |

We have seen seven to ten mph differences by removing the mirrors and taping the front end. Another major item and probably a bigger concern is keeping air Out from under the hood and the car. By limiting the air entering the engine bay other than that needed for the intercooler, radiator and oil cooler, we allow for more stability and limit the air that hits the billboard we call a firewall. We could leave the body work stock in its entirety and make a legitimate claim of street car, but in reality while I can drive my car on the street is is way more of a race Car than a street car. As for the splitter, yes it will be lowered substantially, I drew it up to get the car on and off the trailer. It's will be lowered to level or just below level for the first pass. I built the strut rods and allowed for almost 2.5 to 3 inches of adjustable travel if needed. We are also taking a big pro-comp style spoiler I built for another car and we will run it in test situations. For now it's seat of the pants testing. In the near future we will be installing a Motec Dash that will allow for the use of ride height sensors we will install for data logging the down force from different settings and adjustments. The spoiler I Built has a fully adjustable blade and a 1/4 inch wicker bill. We will have access to some photos and video that will help us make necessary adjustments . I do agree that the tape isnt attractive but I do feel at "hopefully" well in excess of 200 mph Ill take the protection for the car and stability for my backside. I do not want to get airborne.

Can the ProEFI not record suspension height ?
When I had the kevlar hood, it got into all sorts of silly shapes at speed ! After it went airborne last year ( just on the road at speed ) I just stuck the old steel one back on. The difficult bit is the testing, it's not very practical to do 200mph often to test any aero bits and pieces |

I agree on the testing of aero bits outside of a wind tunnel but we will make back to back passes at identical settings and see how things feel. We can data log the traction control and determine if we are creating too much downforce or too little relative the lip spoiler from the factory. If we can't tell any useful information the we will stick with the lip spoiler and find out what the pre-existing ground effects items we've done are capable of. I do have the carbon fibre hood and some hell for stout hood pins. The factory hood will not fit on the car due to the Intake manifold we built.

I got this recently, although again it does come back to the testing, testing and more testing
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1...ilpage_o04_s00 But as they're readily available used, you can use modern car headlamp level sensors to monitor ride height to give an indication of whether downforce is being created...or lift. And a very brief but crude article from the author via their online magazine on same topic. Usually the key with the online articles is doing everything on a tight budget, hence no big fancy spoilers etc. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=113225 |

So, we got in two runs Friday evening. The first one there was a computer gremlin and the car would not make power. Shut it down early and returned to the pits to have Corey check it out. We re flashed the ECU and did a throttle position relearn.
Back to the start grid, but it's dark... Hmmm, they set up some lights and off we went. In the video below I went 199.9 mph in the dark. It was interesting to say the least. https://www.facebook.com/TheTexasMil...3302528258165/

Sounds like a good first outing. Can't say I'd be thrilled about doing that speed in the dark though ! lol
Although maybe it masks the sensation of speed even further ? |

I actually felt it enhanced the feel of speed since it was physically impossible to concentrate or focus on anything... By the time you could see something it was gone... Quite weird actually...

congratulations on the clean runs this weekend. Out of curiosity, what is the Camaro and or 5th gen record?

As for Camaros, the record is held by Bise Racing, Kelly Bise in the 2000 year model SS with a speed of 263.2 mph. Unfortunately that car was destroyed 2 years ago in a nasty wreck at the mile. The driver was fine after a trip to the hospital via chopper.
