You guys are saying that manual is a must for muscle cars but as far as I know, back in the 70s and 80s, it was very difficult to get a pony car with a manual transmission and even then they paled in comparison to the automatics due to the need for constant double-clutching. I guess times have changed, but in order to stick to the true 80s muscle car feel I will be getting the automatic.

Also, I think it needs to be mentioned that most exotica come with an F1 automatic transmission, the manual being a rare, to-order option. Imho, the stickshift is a relic that needs to die. There are no advantages, save for the fun-factor most people consider a burden on most occasions. I'd rather sit back, have both hands on the wheel, and stomp the accelerator and negociate without having to worry about what gear I'm in, tyvm. Btw, the automatic Camaro SS is faster than the manual in 0-60 and quarter mile times, with 26 less hp at that.

37 - SS Manual. Won't be a daily driver, so I'd like to mix it up on the weekends and sunny days..

You'll be less adamant about those burnouts when you realize Pirelli P-Zeros aren't exactly cheap.

I live in the Rockies so know all about mountains. Even better with a manual trani -- less braking!

Enjoy your auto. It sounds like the best option for you. It's all about the best fit for the driver.
Brakes pads cost less than a transmission...

I've lived in the Rockies like 2SSONLY, and he's right, you really are better off putting your car in a low gear than riding the brakes for miles at a time. It's easier to control (so it's safer) and it keeps traffic flowing more smoothly. That being said, you can do the same thing with the Camaro's automatic thanks to the handy dandy tap shifters.

Wait, Auto is faster than manual? Then it would be a no brainer to get auto if you want a faster and a smoother ride. Very interesting. I actually feel a lot better now.

I don't think I need to repeat myself but I will... brake pads cost less than a transmission.

I don't think I need to repeat myself either, but I will... in the mountains you're better off using low gear than riding your brakes.

You only need to double clutch a transmission if the syncro's are removed, or if it is a straight cut gear transmission.

I am trying to think of a muscle car built in the 60's, 70's and 80's that did NOT come with a standard and the Auto was optional. I cant think of one.

If you drive correctly, then you wont use your brakes very much, and you wont hurt the transmission. (this does not apply to racing)
