RS OEM HID Problems - Ballast

My drivers side headlight quit working about 2 weeks ago. I checked the fuses and the relay in the fuse box. The fuses were fine and I rotated the relay and the drivers side headlight still did not light. I thought it was the bulb at this point so I bought 2 D1S bulbs and installed them. The drivers headlight was still out. I now notice that when I turn the headlights on the bulb briefly flashes. I'm now thinking it's the ballast. I order a ballast from Ebay for $34 and install it by removing the front tire/wheel, inner fender well, and the washer reservoir. With the new ballast the headlight works great until today (about a week after I replaced the ballast). This morning when I go to start the car the drivers side headlight does not come on. After turning the headlight switch on and off a couple of times the headlight lights and stays on for my 45 min drive to work.

Anyone else have this kind of problem? I guess I got a bad ballast? Any other thoughts?

Anyone having this problem ... just started having this problem with the 1LE, with the exception of the ebay ballast, mine is OEM.

I would blame the ebay ballast. There is a benefit to paying for OEM parts when it comes to electrical.

+1

Sounds to me like your having problem with your ballast.

Unless its OEM, I wouldn't put that cheap Ebay crap in my car.

Believe it or not Walmart usually has the best deal on genuine OSRAM (Sylvania) HID bulbs.

This one looks like it comes with the ballast. They frequently go on sale for around $50-$60.

I agree, my 1LE does have OEM parts, I wouldn't take a chance on ebay parts. I ordered an OEM ballast already. Just waiting for it to come in, it was about 158.00 and I thought that wasn't too bad compare to what the dealer will charge.

That link does not come with a ballast. The ballast is a round, almost disc shaped piece that screws onto the bottom of the headlight. The silver base on the bulb is just part of the bulb. OP, go for an OEM ballast, they can be had for cheap-ish on ebay as well, I think i got one brand new for around 70 bucks.
