Strange increase in MPG - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

For the past couple days this week i experimented driving to or from work in Sport mode. First thing i noticed was how much better the car felt to drive. Wish it ran that way in regular D mode. I didnt feel i had to hit the gas as much to achieve the same acceleration. Anyhow, i noticed the times i drove in Sport mode my mileage increased 1-2mpg. I did this test more then once just to make sure. Like i said, maybe cause the car felt more efficient in that mode so i didnt have to mash the pedal as much.

Anyone else try comparing? Any known issues in using Sport mode on a continuous bases?

Haven't compared mpg numbers but I agree Sport Mode feels much more efficient at slower speeds and stop and go conditions. I'll be interested to hear some facts.

where are yall getting these modes from both cars are v6s ?????

yes! If you drop your shifter in M you will notice on the heads up display or center readout an S appear for sport mode. If u decide to use the paddle shifters it will change to M for manual mode. Of course D is regular.

Sounds too good to be true lol but if it increases your mpg then i think i might have to try this little test

i switched back to D for the ride home today and i was 1.4 less then this morning in S. Similiar speeds, but not being on a course and having to deal with different traffic levels i dont think i can say 100%. I can say 100% S mode feels better.

How about some others trying and posting if u noticed a difference. I tried it 4 times now and each time the S was better mpg. Could be coincidence.

how many mpg's were you getting in S?

When i drive to work its city and hwy combo...speeds 30-70 over ~39 mile trip each way. I got 25mpg in S mode and have been avg 22-23.9 in D.

I should note, but wont admit to any speeds over the posted limit

I'm a little suspect as to the accuracy of basing mpgs simply on resetting the reading and driving 30 or 40 miles. I don't know how trustworthy that would be.

i haven't compared the mpg but thanks for the idea. it does feel so much more awesome in manual or sport mode. i like the way it revs higher also.
