- he lived, so retreads must be safe.

All joking aside - do we really and truly have camaro members on this forum that see nothing wrong with the property damage caused by road hazards the retreads cause - all because someone wants to save a few pennies a mile in tires?

I'm willing to bet the money saved is even less than that given the amount of retreads on the road. Two retreads are pretty much the same price as a virgin tire. Just saying....

I'm not willing to allow this type of property damage to my car anymore. I want the road hazards to stop. I want what is clearly a grievous oversight by nhtsa to be cleaned up. I want to know when I am moving down an express way at 90 feet per second the road is reasonably free from debris.

I want to know that my children won't have to see another death due to these dang things on the road.

I got nothing against the trucking industry or the retread industry in general - just stop throwing large chunks of steel reinforced rubber at us and we can all get along.

It was supposed to be sarcastic humor directed at the people saying that retreads decapitate people. It obviously didn't work.

Clearly the drivers fault that his car was hit by an object thrown from a semi tractor trailor during a catastrophic tire failure. How dare these guys even be on the same road as a semi. (JK - a bad one perhaps - but still a JK)

I dont think follwong distance has anything to do with calculating how far debris will fly through the air at a given speed. When I was in school it was about safe and effective stopping distance.

You're linking two issues into the same complaint. Obviously an increased following distance won't matter if a trailer directly next to you has a blow-out. An increased following distance, however, will help you avoid the random stationary debris that I'm guessing is probably the bigger issue that causes more actual damage.

The more distance you've got between and you and the guy in front of you, the more time you'll have to safely avoid hazards. It's called driving defensively.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing - these are the things often in the middle of the road...

I think those Chi-town pot holes are gonna get you before a gator does

We're talking about tread delamination, typically from heat issues the tire tread (on just about ANY vehicle, including CARS) can separate from the tire casing.

And you're still following too close.
