1LE Spoiler / Trunk???

Has anyone found a definitive answer about mounting the 1LE spoiler on the ZL1 trunk lid?

I see some saying the 1LE trunk is different and built to handle the extra downforce.

Is this true? Does this mean you have to ALSO swap out the rear trunk as well???

Thanks,

R

All of the 2018 Camaro trunks are reinforced to handle the downforce of the ZL1 1LE wing. 2016-2017 would need a 2018 trunk if you plan to really race it at high speeds.

Well, no disrespect to the poster above, but I've yet to see any real information on this from an official source. If it damages the 2017 trunk lid, it's a warranty issue as far as I'm concerned unless there are warning stickers plastered all over it. Mr. O seems to be guarding this little secret like it's his daughter's cell number.

They spoke about it at Camaro Fest.

I wasn't there. I presume a few other folks were also absent. In who's mind does talking about it at some festival constitute communication?

I looked side by side with a 2018 ZL1 to my 2017. I even pulled the plugs in the trunk lid where the spoiler mounting bolts are. The trunk lids are identical from what I can see, no additional bracing inside the trunk and the inner trunk lid design is the same in both years, so not sure where the extra stiffening is unless the trunk skin itself is thicker, which is possible.

I have talked about this before in my build thread my personal car is a 2017
ZL1 and I have added a factory 1LE spoiler before I did I grabbed one of our 1LE cars from the lot and there is no visible difference whats so ever they even have the same part number so I think that comment made was pure bs and just something "cool" to say about the product

That BASTARD! Haha, he doesn't even know how much havok and confusion he caused with that comment. Well thats good to hear tho, now I wont have to buy a new trunk lid along with an already expensive spoiler.

I suspect you are right. Makes the 1LE seem "cooler" if the wing is "too powerful for the regular body", etc. I have the wing on order, I figure I am unlikely to pass 150 MPH anyway. I'll search for your build thread, very interested in the install process! Thanks for posting!

I am mounting mine on the stock 2017 trunk lid. If I tear it off, I'll get a great story out of it!
