RPI does great work - the color match is always "dead on"! Inferno Orange/Cyber Gray.

Lol. Over 200 bucks for this? Anyone know how much a Scotch Brite pad, painters tape, and a few rattle cans of paint and clear coat costs? Just saying.

geez, tell us how you really feel.

go paint your cover with spray paint and tell us how long the paint lasts and how well it matches the body color. Just saying.

Ha. I don't even own a car right now. However, I can buy an exact factory matching color for 20 bucks for a 12 oz aerosol can, or a pint can for $45. As long as you scuff it enough for the paint to be able to stick, and add several layers of clear coat, it is going to last just as long as RPI. How do you really think these guys are doing it?

Really, I thought they used some space aged technology to apply the paint. God forbid anyone gets paid for their time and materials (not to mention the price includes a new engine cover). Not everyone has a paint booth and spray gun to do the job right. Did you see what GM was charging?

That engine compartment gets HOT, don't think I'd trust spray paint.

And last check, you don't have to buy it!

I've done it all - painted everything on previous cars and by the time you buy the oem paint and time it really isn't worth it - not when the results are as good as RPI's. It's not as easy as scuffing it and painting it. The other advantage is I still have my OEM cover and when/if I sell the car I can put it back to stock if the new owner wishes. I don't know if that means much to camaro owners but for corvettes being able to go back to OEM is important.

Sorry bud, the aerosol can paint will not hold up to high engine temps on plastic. There is a special technique to properly get the paint to stick to plastic under temperature. If not done correctly the paint will peel in a few short months. We are not doing it like you mention, or we would offer for $45.00 with no warranty.

To properly do this you'll need 3 hours minimum of work, and need to sand it down, clean with a 5 step process. Aerosol cans won't get you close to the same finish or lasting quality. But feel free to do you own. We do warranty all of our work and guarantee a paint match and finish.

Oh, and we use OEM paints and paint codes, you cannot get that from a spray can.

Can you guys do the CHEVROLET lettering in Red Jewel Tint and the V8 in Cyber Grey Metalic? If so, how much does this add to the cost?
This is how I was thinking of ordering mine, just with the lettering in the other color. Do you have a picture on hand of a RJT V8 one?
Center Plenum + Side Accent Panels
Red Jewel Tintcoat (80U)
Fuel Rail Colors
Cyber Gray Metallic (57U)

We've been painting under hood items for 11 years and know how to prep the surface so they won't peel or yellow. We have one on our 2010 2SS that's been on there over a year, looks brand new.

Angry

I have been trying to purchase a cover from RPI for a month now First their web authentication was listed as unsecured and a high risk for identity theft. Then after two weeks with no answered calls or emails the site finally came back up as verified and secure. Made the purchase over two weeks ago . No communication, and it is still showing listed as just order received. To make matters worse the office is now closed and taking no calls for a few more weeks. This better be the best damn cover ever!

I ordered and received floor mats and I was literally on the verge of ordering an orange & black engine cover when I read this. My order seems like it will go through, but I will wait and see what RPI says about the situation.

My guess is the mats are produced elsewhere and just shipped by RPI. The covers are custom painted, and they are listed as: will ship in 7-10 days. well that was 18 days ago and my order still reads just "Order Received" and the office has not answered a call, or email, since before I placed the order over a month ago. If they went on a vacation they should have posted something on their site for customers to see. But I have a feeling its more then that, because the sites security authentication was lost for 2 weeks which is fishy.
