160 thermostat needed with Supercharger?
I finally got my supercharger today!!!!! I was looking through all of the parts and noticed that there wasnt a thermostat in there. For some dumb reason, I thought that you needed to change the thermostat. Am i just stupid? is there a reason to change or not to change it? Is the one in a LS3 already a 160 Degree?
Thanks

You will get mixed opinions on the risks/benefits of a 160 T-stat. Some say it does not allow the motor to get to proper operating temps etc and others say it is good for the motor. Some say a 180 T-stat is the sweet spot. The stock T-stat is something like 192 I believe.
I for one dont think it is very worth while but who knows. |

It's about 190 stock, you'll want to change it to 160 with a supercharger. The air temps increase dramatically with supercharging (obvious side effect of compressing air) and the heads will run too hot with stock thermostat. Last thing you want with boost is detonation (cracked pistons / ring lands) which happens if the temps get too high. Lingenfelter, Hennessey, Livernois, etc. all use 160 with their SC installs.

I have a supercharger and 160 deg. T-stat. Runs great and LMR runs these Tstats on their supercharged cars.

My procharger kit didn't come with one and I don't have one installed and my car has been just fine so far.
