Oil change - post storage?
OK - I changed my oil literally 1 hour before putting my car away for the Winter. It is now time to start thinking about bringing it out. My question to everyone is - do I really need to change it again before pulling it out for the season? What happens to the oil after it sits for four months, does it lose its viscosity? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Your oil is fine. Start it and go.

Thanks Ron.
I'm surprised nobody else has an opinion on this, it's such a touchy topic with people when the question is being asked on 'how to prep for winter storage' threads... I just want to know if there is sufficient moisture build-up in the oil after 5 months of sitting in a moist garage to damage the engine if I do not change it out before pulling it out for the year. OR if there are any other concerns. |

You did the correct thing by changing the oil before storage, this removes the blow by and acids that form during combustion. Check for leaks and level and you are good to go. Check your coolant lines as well as sometimes after storage the hoses loosen and leak a little.

Change before, not after storage.
