this wont be a 30 minute install, until adapters are made and mass produced including new face surrounding plastic. Even then it probably won't be a $20 install kit probably more like $200. Not to mention finding a radio that looks right and does not protrude too much at the edges unless the face plastic is remolded to take that into account. Yes if you want the option it will be there but something tells me GM already has this in the works for the coming years. It's a great job and I'll give the op props for the great work. This may prove to be a solution for those that must have a NAV screen or after Market radio, but take into account some car settings like lighting are configured via the radio. I'll stick to the factory radio.

Is it safe to assume that this is more of a mod to the trim piece for the radio bezel to fit a double DIN unit? It looks like nice work and a great match of the color.

I think the new head itself is an off-the-shelf one and it probably loses the functions that control the car options like the lighting delays and those functions that the stock unit allows you to program, correct?

Im gonna guess and say that the switch is connected to a ground then to the head unit. In order for in-dash dvd players to play video they want you to install a ground from the emergency brake ground to the head unit. They want you to put the e-brake on the off then on, the head unit needs the on-off-on signal to play video so many people use a switch connected to a ground to the head unit to simulate the on-off-on signal. Hope that makes sense.

Pull that trim off and look.

Its a double din receiver behind the pretty front.

Love it. Seems like a big job. How long do you think it would take since you have it all figured out?

Out of the GM onstar adapters on the market right now.... I'm not sure if any work with the camaro's harness.

Keep in mind, they do have adapters to carry through on star features into aftermarket receivers... should be a matter of time. Unless he tried a couple and found one that worked.

LTAudio: Did you retain any on star functionality / outside temp etc?

I guarantee you, the receiver behind it is a double din. The mounting hardware in the console is all rigged for sliding in that size. Its the front trim that is the issue. For that, kudos to building a clean trim kit.

Looks good.
Not really for me. The factory head unit does everything I need it to do. (bluetooth, ipod, sat radio and cds)
