I've got three Nut-zert guns and I use them on anything and everything, it's one of those tools that if you have one, you wonder what you'd do without it.

I do also, but most do not, yes you can live with out them by just using a nut a washer and bolt. Most do not have the tool. I my self do not like rivnut a to begin with. I just used the bolt method because I did not want to drive to the hangar that day and only a few where installed.

I've had to do that more than once as an aircraft mechanic. Most of the time it seemed that someone had broken the tool whenever I needed it. For those not familer with this, hold the bolt and tighten the nut. I usually used a hex head bolt, but anything that you can hold still works.

Because of plastic, use a piece of strap and use it as a washer, with out it the riv nut will spin. Got mine all in no problem. Never tighten the bolt, only the nut and hold the strap/washer

Better look at DIY tool, no need for the $200 tool unless you have one. I have one and made this one quicker than diving and getting the tool.

great post!

maybe a stupid question...can you over tighten the nut with the wrench turning on it...how do you tell when the riv nut is fully compressed?

thanks
