I need a catch can, maybe you do too.

2010 SS LS3 with about 4400 miles on it including a 1300 mile road trip and some hard autocross. I was on the fence about a catch can until I saw this.

First I notices this oil...

Then more oil became evident.

So I tried to get some pictures inside the manifold

After I saw these I propped up the back of the manifold and took the next picture the next morning.

So when I get back on the road next spring, I will have a catch can. Now what I want to know is what is the best way to get all this oil out of the manifold?

Wow. I installed my catch can on Monday when mine had 5815 miles on it and it already has 3/4" in it. I'm sure my intake is just as nasty as yours... :(

Don't waste your time thinking about it. Just buy one and put it on... I wish it had put mine on the day I bought it.

Well I said thinking because money. I am at 4100 miles right now and I don't like what I saw in the pics above. I also don't want to rob myself of power with oil being burned in my cylinders.

its not going to hurt anything it was designed for this to happen to get burned off, its just a nice to have and hopfully will keep the engine a little cleaner..

If the oil gets to your mass air flow sensor it will short it out!!

I keep reading on here about oil being burned in the chambers and it possibly causing detonation and pulling timing. Damnit I paid for the power and I don't want to be robbed by something as simple as a catch can......I want it ALLLLL. lol

What can did you get and how much was it?

I have one so I am a fan.... but the car was designed just like all other new cars to be burned off with no issues... so it not a nessesity to have one and the car will still last a very long time with no issues, I have one for 2 reasons I like the looks... and its just to help with the burn off of the oil and I am sure its not 100 %. my point is only that all new cars are desinged to for the oil to be burned off with no issues. I am sure if it was a must have it would come with it...

Damn Paul. That's a lot of oil.

Well, since you already have the manifold off, cleaning will be easy. I'd spray the hell out of it with simple green and grab an old toothbrush to get the stubborn stuff. Then thoroughly rinse. Let dry before reinstalling.

That is if you are running an oiled air filter like a K&N or something of the sort.

Edit:^^^ If you clean the filter and over oil = problem.

We are talking about past the MAF Sensor into the part of your engine that really is the intake. Specifically about the PCV system (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)

Not the Cold Air Intake.......I think that should be called cold air ducting.....look up an intake for a chevy 350 and you will see something like an edelbrock intake made of aluminum......just a pet peeve
