Is waxing a new car - advisable?

I am asking because each time I have had a car painted, last one was $6k paint job, the shops always advise not to wax the car for at least a couple of months to let the paint fully cure.

So, I am just curious, why is it okay to lay a coat of wax on a new car, especially ones that got produced just weeks ago? I can understand the new factory paint can use mild polishing but coat of wax?

Depends on how long your car was in quality control. If it was a while then by all means, wax, but if it never made it to QC, then wait until the paint has had time to set.

it's cause the paint in facotry cars is cured at a high temp to remove all the solvents from the paint before it gets delivered.

this isn't possible at paint shops cause the cars have electronics, and plastics that would melt at the 400 degrees F required to do the same cure.

for example, going to maaco or which ever place... you can't wax for several weeks while the paint fully cures.


facotry vehicles are waxable as soon as they leave the factory floor.

wrong! he is saying that it is not okay to wax a painted car from a paint shop, but never gave the correct answer that it is okay to wax a car straight from the factory.

The GM car cover says not to cover your new car for 3 months............I will not wax it as water based paints take a long time to dry.
