My ZL1 is leaking....

Hi all,

I went to get in my Z yesterday morning and noticed a big spot under the car as I was getting in. I touched the spot to see if I could feel any wetness but couldn't. I have a thin carpet in the garage so it absorbed the the fluid. I backed the car out of the garage and checked the fluids. The car appeared to be low on coolant so I added some. The spot was behind the drivers side front tire to half way under the drivers side door coming from under the car about 3 to 4 inches. By the position of the spot I would think brake fluid. With the belly pan under the car its hard to tell. Anyway the car will be going back to the dealer tomorrow afternoon to get checked out. I will report back to you guys to let you know what happened tomorrow evening.

Leaking around the cap of you master cylinder ? Mine is they ordered me a new cap I need to go pick it up still. Common issue from what I've found. Mines never leaked and dripped though it just leaves residue around the cap

I'm going to bet its coolant. It's the most commonly reported fluid leak.

Pretty much all Camaros leave residue around the cap. With the belly pan it could be anything and if it dried up like that on the carpet it's most likely coolant. Please keep us posted after your dealer visit.

What about the oil cooler? It's on the drivers side by the oil filter.

I was going to tell you to look up a post I made about a small coolant leak that I had a while back. It was a cross threaded fitting on the drivers side of the engine block. It was pretty easy to repair if they had the correct tap(or taps) to do the job. But after seeing your picture. I dont think this is the same problem. Sorry man.

We apologize for your frustrations and I would highly recommend going to a dealership for this type of issue. Once you have an appointment set up, please let me know how the service goes.

...and with that carpet and the fact you're in GA any chance it's AC condensation? I sort of doubt it as I don't see that much under mine.

WOW! With that much of a leak it should be kind of obvious where it is coming from. I doubt it is brake fluid. Try dabbing the spot with a clean white paper towel to see if there is a color and what it smells like. If it is orange--coolant, reddish brown--auto trans fluid, oil color with gear oil smell--mannual trans fluid or rear differential. That should help you narrow it down. Best to just check to see if all your fluid levels are OK and get it to your dealer. Should be easy for them to locate a leak that bad! Good luck! Let us know when you find the problem.
