I thought adding headers and a tune voided my warranty?
So I had my SS in the chevy dealer for its first oil change the other day. the car has hi flow cats and a solo mach xl with j pipes exhaust so of course they all had to take a peak under the car. So im thinking about getting headers and a tune so I asked the service manager if my warranty will be voided and he said NO. unless the check engine light comes on he said ill be fine. so do I have THE BEST CHEVY DEALER OR WHAT? LOL

the headers dont.. the tune does.
thats what he meant by unless the CEL comes on. that requires a ECM tune which voids warranty. he prolly misunderstood a "tune" for a tuneup. an ECU flash does void at the GM level.

my service manager did say that if there was a CEL, I would have to put the original parts back on for the CEL to go off.

With a tune you won't get a CEL. Problem is, if you break and take your car in for warranty the ECM is going to be checked by GM for any modifications to the the factory tune. Even if you put everything back to stock and re-flash the ECM there will still be evidence of tampering. The service department doesn't make the decision on warranty coverage, GM does. So, tune at your own risk, or should I say at your warranties risk!
They can't, by law, void your entire warranty. But, if you have a power train problem GM is going to link the failure to tampering with the factory settings. At that point your warranty claim will be denied.

actually, the way a warranty works is they have to prove your mod caused the problem with your car or whatever. or atleast that's what i understand
