Catch cans on an LS3 are important. I just pulled the intake off after 9,000 miles with no catch can an it's coated in oil. GM did not do a very good job on the PCV system on this engine, there is too much oil pullover from the stock system, I should have installed one earlier.

I went with Elite Engineering's catch can a few months ago after reading SC2150's thread.

I've also seen where others do have contents in the can to empty. Any idea why some have nothing, and others do?

Some engines are just sealed better then others, it really does not reflect engine life (to a point of course) from what I have found, it just "is what it is"..

My catch can was 1/3 full after 4000 miles. That included camaro5 fest and some track days. I'm not sure the brand. It was a gift, it's a eBay one that was IOM in color.

Not recommended

I received the following in an e-mail from Andy at Livernois when requesting a quote for a build: "Now on the catch can, we never recommend these for any of our builds. While it makes sense on paper, there are actually more benefits than draw backs to having some oil vapor in your intake system."

I know this runs contrary to most threads on this forum, but Livernois does have a stellar reputation for build quality!

I wonder which builds this applies to (FI or NA, or both..) and it'd be nice to know what benefits :]

Depending on what my engine surge turns out to be, I'll reserve judgement.

I can tell you this now, that my stock manifold had TONS of oil in it. It dripped out when I took it off.

My blower has oil in it as well. I'm sondering if it's the cause of my surge.

The fact that you can't seafoam your intake (supercharger) with a supercharger is enough for me to have gotten one just for that purpose. I went with the RX.

I have a miss or surge at idle and very low RPMS. Not sure what it is yet but it's possible that it's gotten enough oil gunk to cause flow problems. Not sure. Could be an air leak, but if you could see inside that blower, you'd want to get a catch can, I promise.

As far as cleaning out the oil, I'm not sure how you'd do it.

Probably normal.

Mine never stops. Warm or cold. And it will die after a light throttle push.
