I was told by a friend i know who worked at Hennessy they always pull the heads,at least they did when he worked there...
Not true. Pulling the heads is a ton more work than just doing the cam. If Hennessy is always pulling the heads they're either doing more than the cam or just padding the bill. Absolutely not necessary to pull the heads to change the cam ever since the LS1 was introduced in 1997. GM even makes a tool to go thru the front of the engine to hold up the lifters. But most people just use the 5/16 dowel rods to make their own tool. And the labor to R&R the cam should not be just as much doing the heads too.

Now the only reason to pull the heads if doing a cam is if doing a really big cam on an LS engine that has flat top pistons and you are also fly-cutting the pistons to gain PTV clearance.

Definitely don't want to remove the heads. I didn't even want to do a cam, but after seeing videos of CTS-V's idling and driving with them, I'd consider it. You can't even tell it's cammed!

Also, bump my previous question, if anyone knows

I believe all LS engines have the "LS7" lifters for the last 5 or more years. The LS7 lifter is actual the GM recommended replacement for all the early LS1, LS2 and LS6 engines.

That's awesome! If they're good to 7000 rpms in the LS7, they're definitely more then capable of 6600 rpm.

^^^ Are you saying the cam in the idle video is a LS9? Hell no, but it sounds nice.
