Factory air intake vs K&N recommendation
So I am thinking about replacing my factory air intake system with a K&N or similar upgrade.
Now I understand that by doing so I will add about another 18+ HP plus a better sounding engine. My only concern is that by looking at the factory installed air intake it seems that Chevy did everything possible to make this work perfect. Also by adding a K&N Air intake system will I be voiding the warranty or worse yet harming my resale value. Everything on my car is stock with very little modifications. I would not dare mess with my iphone ( i jail broke it before but prefer that way apple designed it!) Would is your guys input?? Has any of you had issues by installing an aftermarket Air Intake system?? What brand would you recommend? Thanks for all your inputs in advance. Yellowrs. I have the K&N typhoon but I cant confirm the horse power gain. It does let the engine breathe easier and definitely lets you hear the engine when you open the throttle. Easy install and looks great. No warranty void that I am aware of

I love yellow! I went CAI partly due to Jannety's results, partly due to looks, and partly due to others on this forum who recommended. I'm glad I did.

The biggest issue I have with most aftermarket intakes is the exposed air cleaner under the hood. I don't like it exposed, especially on a daily driver. GM spent time and money engineering the stock airbox so there is a good balance between performance, noise, and protection from elements.
I chose the SLP Blackwing because it still uses the stock airbox but replaces the tube between the airbox and throttle body. It also replaces the stock paper filter with a high flow piece. Did it make a difference in power? Negligible. However, it cleaned up the engine compartment and the filter is still protected from water, leaves, bugs, etc.

I originally went with the K&N Aircharger and loved it....until it continuously threw a CEL. So they gave me my money back and I got a CAI. Haven't heard of anyone having problems with the K&N Typhoon so that may be the way you wanna go if you want K&N for sure. If not, there are other brands people like to go with such as CAI, Vararam, Roto-fab, SLP, etc.

I was really paranoid when I bought my camaro 2 months ago about voiding my warranty if i installed the KN intake. i checked with the dealer they said it won't void it, plus KN has the pledge in writing that KN will deal with your dealer if they blame the cause of your engine problem to the CAI.

I have a K&N and so do a few friends of mine. It was recommended to me from a vendor on here and I haven't had a single issue. It's a good value with good performance and warranty.
From my Camaro covered iPhone.

However will you have to modify your windshield wash fluid container? Also I live in Phoenix where the average temperature is 120 F in the summer. I will be sucking in a lot of hot air! |

K&N is not as great as it seems. Yes it provides better airflow. But it does this by doing less filtration, so a lot more crap that you dont want is gonna be getting in you engine. Im not saying theyre bad by any means, but there is a definite downside. Not tryin to rain on your parade!

I would think my oiled k&n works better than the factory intake. It is exposed but after checking it time and time again the interior of the filter is spotless.
