so, let me see,

my car won't stop....ok

turning it off by key or button does not work
pushing down on the brake does not work
using the emergency brake does not work
shifting it into neutral does not work or pressing in clutch for manual
moving floor mat from accelerator pedal does not work

using any combination of the above does not work..almost impossible

ok, let's now add another electronic way to stop the car...press both the brake and gas pedal at the same time.....that seems counter intuitive...and if the pedal sensor is faulty, pressing both pedals will only apply the brakes i hope (there's gona be more programming in the computer)....oh yeah, if you own a car with this specific safety feature and drive one that doesn't and press both the gas and brake together, you will get unexpected results.

how many freakin' ways do you need to stop a car.

what we currently have today is more than enough

brakes
emergency brakes
ignition switch
transmission shift to neutral

all of the above can not fail at once and adding more to the pot does not add value

yes, there will be car recalls for manufacturing defects, but the driver needs to be educated as well on how the vehicle operates and what to do in emergency situations.
