SS Auto Cant Burn The Tires
Hey guys!! Just bought a new 2011 SS Automatic. Im not some young punk who wants to go around lighting up my tires all the time which is why I got an automatic. 10 years ago maybe, but now I just enjoy driving a fast car that has lots of power whenever I wanna punch it plus Im a Camaro loyalist!! My last sports car was a 92 Camaro which I did go sliding around everywhere in!! Little older and little more reserved now. First off, I would enjoy lighting up the tires occasionally (I know, I know, then maybe I should have gotten a stick) but I figured that would still be possible with the auto but Ive had the car 2 weeks now and tried a couple times with no success!! I even turned traction control and stabilitrack off and still no luck!! Is it not possible to light up the tires in an auto ?? I dont wanna beat her up too bad so Im not interested in brake torques plus I dont think the computer will let you rev up with the brake pressed. I really figured that 420 horses would be able to turn the tires over even in an auto!!!

Well first off you don't have 420hp, but rather 400. Secondly, you're gonna need a lot more power if you're intent on lighting up the tires. It may very much also be that you need to perform a fuse pull, see the L99/LS3 stickies to understand what I'm on about.

Turn off TC/SC.
Press firmly on brake. Continue to press firmly on brake while simultaneously pressing firmly on accelerator pedal. Change tires.

And that's how you light them up. How long one continues to hold the brake and gas is entirely up to the driver and their mood/budget at the time

My L99 lit em' right up from a roll the first time I drove it off the dealership lot, mine had no problem at all spinning the tires when it was stock.

All I have to do is nail it and it will smoke-em. Do the fuse pull.....somebody put 87 octane in it. Run it low on gas and fill with 93...drive some and then do the fuse pull as defined in the sticky

So what the hell am I doing wrong? Is there something wrong with my car? When you guys were able to light up pulling out of the dealer did you at least have to turn traction control off ? I cant complain too much though, I like the fact that it doesnt spin, just hooks up and takes off like a rocket!! Im just concerned that if you guys have no problem lighting them up and I cant do it at all is there something Im missing or is there something wrong with the car? Like I said, I have tried with traction control off, stabilitrack off, and with both off. I have tried it in paddle shift mode but I went down to 1st gear, I didnt stay in "S". And once again, Im not interested in the brake torques. You can do that with any rear wheel drive!!
