Car Covers

It's getting to be that time of the year that it's time to be thinking of a car cover for this car for winter storage. Since I do not have a garage, I'm going to be looking soon for a climate controlled storage facility for my ZL1.
So what car cover have you purchased (or will be purchasing), and why. I'm looking one which will be an indoor cover and will be the safest to use to keep the car from being scratched from taking the cover off.

Also have you replaced the tires with nitrogen, and will you be over inflating your tires or using some thing like flat stoppers.

Any other tid bits you would like to share for winter storage of our ZL1's
would be appreciated.

I got the ZL1 cover from Becky at Rogers!! As far as winter storage, I live in NM. It won't be stored too long here.

I bought the GM outside all weather cover and It fits really good. I probably should have bought the inside cover but this will be fine. Sorry picture is not the greatest.

I am curious what other people are doing for storage as well although that is depressing because it will be away for a good 5 months. I looked at the flat stoppers and they seem like they work. Between that and keeping the battery charged I think that covers it ok.

I got a new indoor ZL1 GM cover from ebay for 205 including shipping. Talk about being at the right place at the right time. If you can't find what you want PM Maureen@rodgersChevrolet, she's in charge of parts, great people to deal with. I went with the GM cover feeling that it definitely wouldn't scratch. I'm sure GM doesn't want everybody calling and bitching them out about how their cover scratched there ZL1 that was purchased from them. I wish I didn't need it but am also looking at about 5 months covered up.

Does anyone think these cars will develop a "flat spot" in the tire from sitting for so long? If so what are your solutions to that problem? Put different tires and rims on?

I am sure that Rodgers has great covers. I got mine from Tom Henry racing. It is a really nice cover and says Tom Henry Racing on it and ZL1 under it. If you are interested, I can post pictures.

I typically try to over inflate the tires to try and prevent flat spots. I will drive it anytime there is no salt and sand on the main roads so that helps too. Finally I make sure I have a full tank of gas and put Stabil in it.

Over inflate to say 50-60 PSI?

I'll be reusing the GM car cover I bought for my 2011 Vert. It has a wonderfull soft lining to it.

I'll be storing mine in the same unheated storage locker I used for my 2011, and I'll use the same battery tender.

No I will not be filling the tires with nitrogen nor will I overinflate the tires.

As far as worrying about flat spots on the tires, I wouldn't worry unless the car will be sitting for a couple of years. Over the winter? nah.

The one thing I'm semi concerned with is the tires and the temperatures. IIRC, when the ZL1 was first announced, it was published that the tires weren't to be even stored where the temps would fall below 20F.

If that's indeed the case, then I still have an extra set of wheels/tires from the 2011 Vert that I should be able to mount on the ZL1 while it's in storage and move the ZL1 wheels/tires to the basement of the house for the winter.

I bought my floor mats from Maureen and Becky, there a great. Ok so the GM cover sounds like a winner. Nitrogen is not needed, and a full tank plus some additive for storage sounds like a good idea. I knew about the battery tender, have to see if they have electricity at these storage facilities.
I thought I read some where on the forums to block up the tail pipes due to mice crawling in.

Thx for the info keep them coming.

In my un-heated storage locker (10x30) they don't have electric outlets on the wall, but they do have a single overhead light bulb (hint hint).

I don't worry about blocking the tailpipes simply because my storage facility is a fairly new steel walled structure on a cement floor with no apparent places for critters to get in. If I did however decide to block teh tailpipes, I'd do it with something that starting the car would be able to blow out all by itself rather than use something like a big cork or a potato that might cause harm if you forgot to take them out when you started the engine.

If anything, some people will buy containers of dissacent and place 1 or two inside the car to absorb moisture.
