Small, mom & pop businesses that were common during the initial phases of the industrial revolution were more consumer-oriented. The reason for that is simply that their customer base was localized and a single bad customer experience could have a measurable effect on their bottom line.

Large businesses have never, ever been subject to a description such as yours. Businesses exist to make money, otherwise they die. The extent to which the customer experience drives customer service is wholly dependent upon the degree and extent that it can negatively affect the bottom line.

But - and this is inarguable - product innovation is and always has been driven by the potential to increase revenue.

Buddy it's called Engineering. You get a product make it better and then make that one better and so forth. It happens with everything from electronics to sports. I don't suppose you're still using a cellphone from 1998 or a first gen iPhone?

It's even worse with electronics (TV's, computers, smart phones). As soon as you buy one there's a better and cheaper one out the next month practically.

I don't have a smart phone, I still use a Motorola Razr I bought 5 years ago.

OP has obviously never purchased a computer either. That market is even worse. A 6 month old computer is outdated already. That is life. If you always have to have the latest and greatest you will always be disappointed. There will always be something new. Be happy or be broke. Thats how i see it.

Thats why I bought the LS, Changed the wheels and now going down the road everyone just sees Camaro. I paid less than half the ZL-1 cost.

Thats why i will keep what i have and build what i want from that base! Its not like we dont know this all already...look at Apple, they have people hooked on the iphone like Crack Heads to Crack...me included...lol! Everyone has that ONE thing that they just HAVE to have the latest and greatest...be it shoes, clothes, car, phone, Girl

umm... they used to dramatically change body styles of cars EVERY SINGLE MODEL YEAR!!! how is this different?

they make a new model and there's demand, so they make more variety to satisfy complaints found out through market research. how is that any different from companies that make refrigerators, televisions or razors (6 blades anyone)?

it sounds like sour grapes. "car companies don't cater to me in a way that ignores the need to make money and instead bases their entire business model on satisfying me in a complete and utter way." if you think that this isn't how business was run 75 years ago, you've gotta take off those rose colored glasses.
