chips in my factory stripes!!!!
anybody else here getting little chips in the factory stripes? besides chips in the stripes i am also getting a lot of chips in my paint on the shark gills for some reason. yes my camaro is my DD and i do realize i will not be able to prevent everything from damaging my paint but i think GM could have done a better paint job because this is getting ridiculous. i have chips that are down to the white primer for cring out loud lol.
any advice on what to do for chips in the factory stripes? |

Sounds like you have been driving "Dukes of Hazard" style down dirt roads, rd-camaro.
Just giving you a hard time. Sorry to hear you are getting chips. Only 1700 miles on my CGM so far, nothing serious except some faint scratches where I messed up while washing it. Dooooohhh! Some folks have been putting the clear bra material in the gill area, for just the reason you are experiencing.

This happens when you drive them. Even my garage queen/show car has them. Really nothing you can do about the stripe but you can touch up the paint. Sometimes if it's a small chip it's best left alone

I was told by my dealer the decal strips are covered. Pant probubly is not, even though the paint is thin on these.

Here's mine. I was going to pick up some CGM touch up paint from the dealer and try to hand buff it down to make it look smooth...

i have installed the 3m on the bumber and fenders and mirrors. i didnt do the hood because of the flat black stripes(they would apear gloss under the 3m) and now i have some chips on the hood and in the stripes. i have not noticed any chips in the gills area yet but i will take a closer look next time i wash the car. i guess i will just have to repaint the hood and have the stripes painted on the hood and trunk, then i can 3m the entire hood. i dont know if i would like the 3m on the gills, you can always see the edge of the film. the 3m company offered to do the whole car but that is too much money.

I have RJT, mines a DD with about 8,000 miles. I noticed a chip on my drivers side gill also. I think it's a small stone coming off the front tire and the gill is where the body flares out, so that's where it hits. Maybe the factory splash guards would stop this? I also have a couple of chips on the A piller next to the windshield. Seems the paint does chip very easily on our cars though.

xtreme how much did the 3m cost you for what you did?
67 thats makes sense about how the chips got on the gills. good thinking lol i have the splash gaurds on before i started getting chips so it seems they really dont help too much but i could only imagine how much more i would have if i didn't have the splashes on. |

Maybe it has to do with the water based paint that the government is making them use. I know from my 02 SS that they use about a gnat's eyelash worth of paint on them. I was compounding a scratch on the hood of my 02 and easily burned down to the primer. I touched it up but you can't really touch up a clear coat paint job if you must use color to fill in a void. The touch up paint sits on the clear coat and shows right up. My scratch was on the passengers side so I just did not look at it for the next 5 years. It was my DD and it went through a lot of snow and salt and sand. It had 60,000 on it when I traded it for my '10 1 SS.
