Ticking sound when first starting car after parking for a while

I don't know what this ticking sound from Under the hood is when I first start my car in the morning, but it's gone after I drive it for a bit. Anyone know?

Do you have headers or any exhaust modification?

Does it sound like internal engine parts or an accessory? If it sounds internal make sure you are topped off on engine oil, being a quart or two low will usually give you a loud start up.

I got it fresh off dealer as brand new car with all the fluid filled and with no custom modification, I am pretty sure it's not from the rear of the car

it not a loud start up, it's just that annoying rapid ticking noise until I drove off and when I stop the car on idle again, the noise is gone

Me too! I've noticed it since the time I bought the car (used). Example: I'll start my car, let it warm up a bit, then take off. About 3 minutes later, I hear "tick-tick-tick-tick-tick". 5 times, and it sounds like it's coming from the trunk.

Its lifter noise, lots engines do it. When sitting for a while the lifters bleed off oil pressure, then rattle till they pump up again.

Mine is used and from what I can tell I have the same ticking sound coming from under my hood. I asked the dealership about it before I bought it, he brought the mech out, had him listen to it, and said it was the injectors - more importantly that it was nothing to worry about. My car's under warranty still but they gave it a clean bill of health. Of course they'll say anything to get you off the lot...

Mine does this too, I read it was the fuel pump.

What engine?

The 3.6 is direct-inject and the injectors make a lot of noise. Completely normal. Sometimes it sounds similar to, but is different from lifter noise. It takes a trained ear to hear the difference.

If you have a noise that begins on startup and then disappears 20-30 seconds after and sounds like a persistent tapping, this is probably the lifters. They'll tap until the oil circulates up and metal starts to relax as it warms. Sometimes this is normal, sometimes it's indicative of an oiling issue, or a low oil issue. It really depends on the severity. Maybe post a youtube video showing us what it sounds like?
