What's a good compromise tire for the daily driver 1LE?

Hi everyone, looking for opinions on a good compromise type tire for my daily driver 1LE. I have had the car for about a year now, and I'm at nearly 18,000 miles on the stock Goodyears! (I had to replace 1 rear about 5-10K miles ago when it got a hole in it)

I do mostly highway driving, but I do like to enjoy the car when not driving in a straight line. So I'm looking for a quality tire that can handle the amount of miles that I drive, while still offering as much grip and traction as possible, while also not costing an arm and a leg to replace.

Is this possible or would you call this the definition of "wanting your cake and eating it too"?

Also looking for opinions on the tire size of choice for each suggestion. Is it time to consider a slightly wider rear tire, mainly for aesthetics, or keep the square set up? Lastly, I plan on lowering the car 1" soon. Maybe 1.25", but probably leaning towards the Hotchkis 1" springs as of today.

P.S. - South Florida weather, I don't have to worry about extreme cold or ice, but we do get our fair share of heavy rain!

The Pilot Super Sports are very good, but so are the OE GYs.

Why screw up your well balanced 1LE with staggered tires turning it into a SS?

BFG g-Force Comp-2 A/S... amazing in the rain, and great dry grip.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

JP - I don't want to screw the well balanced 1LE, but figured I'd ask the question.

Regarding the suggestions, how do these tires compare to the stock GY's when considering tread life, performance and cost?

I don't mind the GY's and they are not too expensive compared to some other tires. I think the MPSS are a lot more expensive, right? Would the extra tread life make up for the cost difference?

The BFG looks to be a lot less expensive.

What about Nitto Invo's on this car?

I don't know much about tires and don't have the time right now to read thread after thread. (I have already made myself sick reading every bit of detail related to headers, tune, springs, etc...over the past few months. If I keep that up, I won't even notice my family walking out the front door!)

For what it is worth, I just put on my third set of GY's, and we are right at 40K. Like you OP, we are in south GA and do not have to worry much about temps, and I have had zero issues in the rain.

I have zero issues with GY's, and really like them. I was just wondering if they were a bit "overkill" for a daily driver car that will not see the track. They wear down very quickly compared to other tires, but you pay to play...

I'm hoping to find a compromise tire that:

1) has a longer tread life than the Goodyears
2) is less expensive than the Goodyears (or is at least less expensive in the long run...maybe cost is higher initially, but the extended tread life will make up for it?)
3) performs well enough to consider putting on this car

I think your points are all valid, and its a good question. I guess i just want it to work to its very best when I want it to, and those tires are key part of that equation. I will be watching to see what others suggest. I should also note that I try to time tire purchase with sales on this tire. This set was bought with a sale that ended right after Memorial Day, $200 off!

I will be sticking with the goodyears when they wear out (because racecar) but if I had to make the change it would be MPSS (had them on my last car and loved them) but keep in mind you are going to spending about 300 more on those for maybe 10k more miles.
