I've been working on cars and bikes from the time I was in junior high school, back then there was no where the selection of aftermarket parts as there are now, we hand made almost everything unique.

Yeah, I came around the transition time. When they started having stuff. My cars always seemed to be outcasts where I had to adapt parts.
When I got this car I had the "catalog car" concept in mind. I don't have the time or resources at the moment to go too crazy so I wanted something I could just order parts. I still try to be unique with my own style and touches though. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

In a way I was lucky, there were a handful of car/bike guys in my area. I was good friends with Chick Brignolo, he was a chassis builder, everything from street rods to funny cars, one famous one that comes to mind was the Boston Strangler, that's when I got into chassis building, mostly Harley's but I've done a few cars here and there. I think the most challenging was my '31 Chevy with a 454 cid built motor. I actually sold it shortly after buying the Camaro, not enough time for both and got a great offer on the '31. Originally the Camaro was going to remain stock and the '31 my toy but once I got my hands on it, well, you know. lol
I'm home with the flu so I've got nothing better to do, here's a couple of shots of the '31 through the build process. |

This what happens when I don't stay busy and have time to think. lol While browsing through some old photos I came across a few of my old bike hauler, it was a '68 c30 dual rear wheels, custom aluminum tilt bed, built 454 and CHOPPED. Just sitting here wondering how cool my car would look chopped 2", can the sunroof for head clearance, which really isn't a problem as is. I may have to try to find an old friend of mine who did the glass on the '68. Not sure if newer glass can be cut like the older stuff.

That thing must've been nuts with a 454 in it...
As for chopping the Camaro it's practically chopped as it is... lol Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

The '31 was a major project, unlike Fords of the same vintage the Chevy was still mostly wood including floor structure, roof structure, door jams, dash and on and on so I had to make all the components by hand as well as the custom frame to handle the power. I sold it before it was finished but the motor was previously in my '68 C30, it was quite a show watching all 4 rear wheels go up in smoke. It would have been wild in the '31'
They do look chopped but 2 more inches is a subtle difference that would draw second looks. Thinking about it some more I'm realizing it would be a bit of work with the electronics, air bags etc I won't be jumping right in as it's a big project and it's my DD. Perhaps next winters project. |

It's something I can't just jump in on and figure out on the way. Once you make that first cut it you're in it for the long run. I was hoping to start in on the drivers side door handle but I'm still laid up with some kind of flu, can't even think straight.

Finally feeling a little better so had a chance to play with the car. Finished all the hammer and dolly work and got a coat of filler on. Tomorrow I will start blocking it when it's close I will fit the door handle and contour it to the body. I'm very happy with how it's coming along.

Thanks guys. Had a chance to block out the door, primed it, powdercoated the handle and got it fit in. The only thing left is to get the handles gaps perfect, there almost there but I'll finish it next time it comes out, right before final prep for paint. Once it's painted the handles will pretty much disappear, very happy with it and it works great. Tomorrow I'm going to start in on the drivers side.
