What would the harm be in cutting out the x all together and just going straight from the cats to the mufflers?

Same fitment. The L99 midpipe has an extra set of resonators in them. You'll still have to cut the factory exhaust out so you can fit that jegs x-pipe in place.

You will loose some exhaust velocity and most likely some horsepower. H-pipes work fine but the X-pipe makes the most sense on these cars. The powerband on an LS motor is generally higher in the RPMs which is perfect for an X-pipe.

If your car is an auto you are going to need to cut and weld with extra piping, especially if you go with the magnaflow x-pipe. That suitcase in the middle is huge removing it was the best thing i did

I got mine from mufflermonster.com its a direct fit x pipe. The shop was amazed at the fact it fit right in and they did not have to do anything extra

L99 Resonator Replacement w/X-Pipe

I have an auto 2010 Camaro (L99) with Kooks Headers, Hi-Flo cats and Loudmouth II mufflers in rear ---- with the big stock center resonator. This combo produces the sound I like along with a little extra hp. (AFM has been tuned out).

BUT that big resonator has developed a "rattle" inside (I believe this is common for some early models). Apparently the baffle welds let go.

I plan to replace the resonator with a X-Pipe (see JEGS). Has anyone with a similar L99 setup done this?? I wonder if this will induce drone. Any input is welcome.
