CAI IN California
Hello All,
I have a 2015 ZL1, It is not time yet to require a smog test for my new tags. My question is...Is there any possible way to get around a smog test with the Roto-Fab CAI installed ? I know, it sucks that California has such strict laws for smog. I did some research and I could not really find any other high quality CAI for the ZL1 that is smog legal in Cali ? So, am I just stuck with re-installing stock air cleaner box before smog test is required ? Any and all tips much appreciated !!! Thanks !! |

This is so weird as I am in the same boat. I have been asking the same question and have gotten conflicting answers. Some say as long as it is just the air box that you replaced and not the headers and or cam shaft you will be fine and others say you will fail if you well do anything engine wise. I switched out to the Cold inductions CAI and no longer have the OEM air box. I am moving to Cali in October if things go right and now searching for one. So if you find out the answer please let me know

I think the smog tech needs a C.A.R.B# to punch into the computer ? Or something like that, with out that number, I was told it was an automatic fail !! But how does the computer know the stock box is not there ?? That is what I need to know ??

To the best of my knowledge RotoFab does not have CARB approval (therefore no sticker). I have been told that CARB stickers can be found on the Internet

Jus Dreamin,
Thanks for that info !! But how does just tech guy know that the intake is not stock ? The z28 has an intake that looks really close to what the roto-fab looks like. |

K&N has the ony Carb approved CAI for the ZL1 in California. It is a bit pricey, but is carbon fiber.

Ok here is one place that the eo can be found. I have seen it elsewhere also.
Check this link and click of the CAI link. That will download a PDF of the new Eo orders. The ZL1 is on page 4 of the pdf. I have also seen it on the fb page of ************. I will try to dig that up also when I get home. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=437263 |

Most or all cai are not legal and you will fail. You need one with acarb sticker that is placed under the hood. They do a visual unless you find a place that doesnt or doesn't care, however they are watched andif cars never fail at their place the state looks into it as they know there are cars that dont pass. I was pulled over for going faster and the chp new my box wasnt legal and wouldnt pass. Also on the mention about the z28 box, its ok on the z28 as it came with it. Doesnt mean a SS or zl1 can use it as they didnt come with.
