That was an interesting read... just a few weeks ago, i got to test drive a M2 and ss 1le almost back to back. While the M2 was a 2017 with the n55 engine, it was awesome, amazing power, and it's the right size.... then i drove the ss 1le, and liked it even more... can't stop thinking about ss. So cool these cars exist!

I just sold my M2, and picked up a used SS with 3k miles for nearly half the price. I can tell you, it is a lot more than nearly half the car .

There are many things about the SS that I actually like more. I am really surprised to hear that the comp m2 actually makes up most of its time on the straights over the corners, the alpha chassis and those wide tires are an amazing combination.

what's going to be scary is when folks modify their s55 equipped comp m2's. they can make some very insane power for very little money.

I'd be willing to bet a Chevy is cheaper to modify than a BMW.

^S55 power mods are more cost effective than for the LT1 (unless you get a whipple, but that would throw off the weight distr).

While I haven't tried the M2C, I can say 1LE has the better steering & chassis tuning vs the regular M2.

So I didn't realize that the size difference between the two was so close, of course the 1LE is about a foot longer but it is less than 2in wider. These dimensions are important for Autocross, where the M2 Comp will most likely be classed with the 1LE eventually, as of now only the regular M2 is up against the 1LE and I think we will win that fight easy enough (course depending), but the M2 Comp should put up more of a fight. It's good to see the the size advantage isn't that much in favor of the M2 so that give me hope haha I've had to deal with some Miata friendly courses where I literally have to slow down to like 15mph to fit through a tiny gate, that shit is annoying!!!

This sums up why I love the 1LE:

I had an E36 //M3 back in the day, and I align my driving preferences with that philosophy. When people ask me about the 1LE, I usually tell them "It's the //M4 that BMW should've made". It appears R&T, in not the same words, agrees.

I'm actually impressed Baruth was able to articulate the good steering feel of the 1LE. I think he sensationalized it a bit, as the 1LE's steering feel isn't quite as communicative as the all-time greats, but still basically the best of this twenty-teens era. FWIW the Supercar 3 tires play a big part in the high ratio signal-to-noise of the feedback.

I'd agree...estimates aren't what folks want to read magazine tests for...but reality actual factual data.

Surprised at the quarter of this particular Camaro...12.3 at ~116 mph. Only 165 mph though?

Would there be a greater price difference in the real world? More GM discounts and 1ss 1le is cheaper than $50k right?

Yes, you're right. The 1SS is $46 ish MSRP I think, and easily had for less than that.

I paid $47K for my 2SS 1LE.

It is probably hard for magazines to speculate on anything other than MSRP though, as anything under MSRP varies too much across the country and dealer.
