It looks like Ford figured it out. They know exactly what it is and have a name for it...

"a clutch pedal Stayout condition"

From Ford Mustang TSB (not recall):

"The clutch pedal Stayout is a condition where at high engine RPM, centrifugal forces on the clutch system can reduce the force with which the clutch diaphragm fingers push against the release bearing. This can result in the clutch pedal staying on the floor until engine RPM decreases and the diaphragm return force increases."

So... why is GM pretending the issue doesn't exist, or is driver error? It happened to me only once, but trying to explain this to a service rep is like pulling teeth, especially when they pretend they have never heard of it before.

One good sign... Ford is only fixing cars manufactured before a particular date (not ALL mustangs). This means that there is a field fix (part replacement) for this, and NOT a unfixable design flaw in this type of application. So if and when GM admits it, they will fix it.

VIN#...211974 (April 2010)

Clutch sticks halfway down several times - twice at the dragstrip and 3-4 times under normal driving conditions
clutch smell- no i don't ride my clutch

I replaced my trans and brake and clutch fluids with dot 4 about three months ago and haven't had an issue with the clutch sticking but havn't taken it to the track since to really test her out. My newest problem now is my gears grinding - mostly between first and second and second and third. Could possibly be the stock clutch going out with the supercharger but only had the sc on for about oh 8-9 months so kinda hard to believe that it would be going so soon then again the husband drove my baby while I was deployed and my stock pirelli's are pretty much slicks now and watching the way he drives his manual 2011 wrangler I can see why it might be going out however the car is just over a year so it bothers me a tad...

1. Leaking master cylinder cap noticed in first week. Replaced...no more problem.
2. Noticed burning clutch smell when I got home on first day. Discused when cap was replaced. Dealer said "There are a lot of coatings on these vehicles that will burn off in time". Burning smell was gone at about 1000.
3. Clutch was very sensitve from day one. It was either engaged or disengaged. I have been driving sticks for 30 years but I had to really concentrate on smooth shifting. Dealer said "it was operating as designed. They are all like this". Drove another SS and it was the same.

At about 3000 miles, coming home one day, my neighbor was outside and as I passed I depressed the clutch, did two quick revs of the engine to about 4k, let the rpms come down and released the clutch and continued down the street to my house. Something had changed in my clutch pedal feel. I stopped and started again. The clutch pedal had a normal feel to it...like everything else I have driven for the past 30 years. It engaged smoothly. It shifted nicely. I felt like I got a new car. I am at 5000 miles and it still shifts great. Nice and smooth during normal driving and feels solid during launch control testing... Wish I knew what changed. Now I feel it is operating as designed.
The only thing that I fell is still not right is, with engine running, release the clutch, and there is a light clunk. You can feel it in the shifter. Dealer says "it is operating as designed". Oh well.

Funny that you would make an accusation about driver error when a stuck clutch has nothing to do with driver error and everything to do with hydrolic issues. What controls the clutch pedal? How about pressure and the slave cylinder, neither of which has anything to do with the driver. Thanks anyway for your opinion, but this is for those who are seriously experiencing clutch problems due to manufacturer defects.
So you know, it's "hydraulic" not "hydrolic".

I have been driving stick for 23 years, since 1988, and The Camaro manual trans system/clutch is the worst I have ever experienced. However, FORD has had its share of clutch issues too, I know I owned Mustangs for 22 of those 23 years I have been driving stick.

I dig this new Camaro, but man all the little things that go wrong are beginning to tick me off a bit... I was thinking of keep her until the wheels fell off instead of my normal get rid of it in 12-24 months.

However, I think once this puppy hits the 2 year mark and the 2012 Stang is out I may go back to Ford again. Although the new Challenger has really caught my eye more and more, but I love driving the Camaro, especially on long roadtrips

Took her to Lousiville, KY and it was a lot of fun. Smooth sailing nice cornering... was an enjoyable roadtrip experience.

Well wouldn't you know right before I leave to deploy again I'm running around town enjoying the last remaing days of driving my own car for a few months and bam...clutch sticks again! :( Was doing so good for a while that I thought replacing the fluids with dot 4 had worked the issues out. Already got a new clutch on order b/c of the sc anyways, so hopefully I won't have any issues with this one ...can't wait till I get back to put it in and probably a few other upgrades as well
