I'd personally go with the 231/236 cam from texas speed. or the g6x3 from lg

I have it the texas speed cam in my car. I drove for a day with it ON THE STOCK TUNE and it didn't even have much cam surge. It did of course die whenever I tried to slow down in neutral, without blipping the throttle.

I put a mail order tune on it and there is no cam surge. In my opinion, it is VERY daily driveable. It puts out great power and has a very nice idle to it.

A quick sound clip of mine when it was untuned:

With $3K it might be better to add a little more and go for the Maggie... I love the sound of the Cam though and like it being all Motor .. I torn between the two.

Nothing wrong with the Hotcam. Just alot of talk about the technology being old.

If you want something with different charactoristics, there are "newer" choices. But all in all, a proven design for sure.

The hotcam is more for people who want the sound of a cam; but not that much performance. If you want a lumpy idle; stick to the 11 and 112 lsa cams

Of course with the M6 you don't have to worry about changing out the lifters, etc.

As for valves, get a valve job!!!! My valves were already unseated by .006" and would just get worse. I am hearing more and more about these cars having the valves drop and say bye bye engine, and with no warranty that's going to hurt the pocket book.

Anyway, custom cam, valve job, timing set (got rid of VVT), new lifters (you won't need), and miscellaneous seals, gaskets and hardware - $3200.

Add a tune for $300-$600

Looking at almost $4k for me (of course I ended up losing another $2200 because of the MAST cam that they couldn't get to work right and spent hours on the phone with them trying to figure it out and they finally said it was their product but won't give me my money because I bought it from Byunspeed who refuses to do a refund too - basically I have a $700 wall decoration)

You don't technically have to get rid of VVT, so that will save you a bit. You won't need new lifters with the M6. The valve job requires removing the heads and that is where the money comes in.

Trust me on this - do it right, don't regret not doing everything from the beginning like me. You drop a valve and you're toast.

PS - if you are going to get a torque converter get rid of the VVT, only really beneficial at the lower RPM levels.
I see you've delt with MAST also...its a shame because I "think" Horace is trying to do the right thing...IDK...my experience was much like urs.
