also has anybody here notice that when you go light on the throttle and try to shift at 2000 rpms it making you go into fourth. it will show on the dic from 1st to 4th and it kinda locks out second you have to rev and try again if you want second. now this is if you are light on the peddle and not stomping off the line kinda like barely pressing. my dad noticed it to when he took it to work to show it off.

That's the skip shift. It's used to help boost mileage. My 98 has it and there are eliminators out there that can get rid of it for less than $40.00.

dunno what it could be other than operator error. softwares doubtful cuz you see it enter that mode in the DIC...

So I went out to an unused road to try it.

Competitive mode, clutch all the way to the floor, gave it gas till I saw it hit 5K, let off the gas. Tried it again, then even tried it in normal mode. Did not hold at 4K out of 4 tries
I got it to work pretty much every time now.

Tap the button twice as every one has said. On the dic it will say Competitive Mode on the lights within the Tack the car with the sqiggles skid marks lights up. Then pop the gas pedal to the floor. Dont just ease it down and dont slow up on your decent...pop it down and hold it. Guess Gm figures you have to have balls if your going to try to race your car and this is their ultimate ball check.....lol Then you will see that the rpms stop around 4000. mine actually stopped at about 4200 or so to be accurate. Then once again dont try to baby the clutch. Drop it and hold the gas to the floor You have about 3 seconds to get ready to lift to shift then pop it back to the floor. I played with this for about ten launches on a friends training track. Perfect concrete with lights and a 60 ft timer. I would not try this on the street cause you will lose most of your rubber. I am a rookie driver and I will be the first to admit it. I will use launch control until my personal foot controlled launch times are consistantly better than what the computer is giving me. Ok so that was it for me in a nutshell. In summary, You have to have balls to activate launch control. If you dont the car is set up to self destruct making the world a safer place....

I have looked around a little and I have not come across the info yet and may be I missed it but...

does the V6 with standard come with launch control like the V8 does? Probably not.

I too think that I must not be mashing the gas fast enough. Will try again. Though I would think that they would make it so that it would stop at 4k regardless.

it sure seems like the ratio could be better... just sayin....

does the "comp mode" disappear from the DIC? (that makes me nervous)
but the burnout icon stays.
