Hey guys,

I did make a mistake when installing the camber plates and I was able to confirm and correct it today after speaking with both Donovan at ground control and Jake ohlins. The correction did not change the ride height but I did gain some extra room between the tire and the strut.

For those of you that have never used a camber plate without rubber insulators, I think it's worth mentioning that more noise, harness and vibration will be transmitted to the cabin through the chassis. It's barely noticeable but it is there compared to the soft cushy OEM strut tops. This has been the case for all of my previous cars but IMHO it's a tiny price to pay for the potential performance gains.

Because I spent the morning taking things apart on the front of the car I had to reschedule the alignment for Thursday this week. I took the day to flush / bleed the brakes, replace all of the oils, and engine water / coolant.

Great thread, thanks for sharing. I think you mentioned going with 305s all around?
Keep in mind that if you are going with 305s, the new wheel width/clearance doesn't matter as much because the new tire gains width more than the wheel. Going from 285 to 305 is 20mm more width where as the wheel change is as you stated, only 1/2" (12.7mm). On the Gen5, the tire to strut clearance is more of a concern than the wheel to strut.

But of all this may be a moot point anyway, because the camber plates help a bunch.

Here is a calculator that I use, https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

We have been doing this for years having installed 305/30/19s in October of 2009. Using the OEM Z/28 wheel offsets, you can run a 325/30/19 and clear an OEM strut.

Bridgestone yes but what about Michelin 325s?

Can the camber still be maxed out (about -2.4) with the 325s and OEM struts and no camber plates?
I'm about 7mm away from my OEM (Z/28) strut and at max camber (-2.4)at the knuckle, no camber plates, OEm Goodyear F1 285s/10" 1LE wheel.

Hey guys,

Got the alignment done today. I was able to work the car with the technician so that is always encouraging.

I didn't take the print out with me as I was able to see all of the changes we made live. Took it for a drive after and I'm super happy with the car right now.

We disconnected the front sway bar to make sure we didn't have any preload on the ride height and started our work.
These are the results:

FRONT LEFT: FRONT RIGHT
Caster 7.2 7.2
Camber -2.8 -2.8
Toe .11 out .10 out

LEFT REAR RIGHT REAR
Camber -1.4 -1.4
Toe .10 in Toe .10 in

Thrust angle 0.00

Soon the time with come to start tighten up the shock damping.

How are you measuring your camber?

I have one spot of my driveway dedicated to self alignment of my 1LE. I poured the concrete (almost) perfectly flat. To rid the variances, the car sits on stainless plates which are all on the same plane, front to rear, side to side. Using a pair of inverted linoleum floor squares with oil in between for turn plates at each wheel Thrust is done with .017" 65Lb test fishing line, thin and strong. Keeping the string thin allows for better results. Toe is checked at strings and with a toe bar. I have not put it on a real alignment machine to verify my current #s, but I will soon. Took alot of attention to detail to get it perfect. It is repeatable and the
steering feel is amazing. Got tired of relying on others for a lack of perfection plus $$.
Front:

-2.4 camber
+8.2 caster
0 toe

Rear:

-1.2 camber
.062" toe in (total)

All good, nice setup.

Did you relive the slot in your struts to allow for more camber?

Front coilovers

Do you have a picture of your front coilovers installed? I am having trouble getting my ride height down to 660mm (currently at 705mm) with the same kit. I cant figure out were I messed up. Thanks.

Sorry I'm just seeing this, I just got back from a business trip yesterday and been working on the wifes' list all day.

Are you using the OEM strut tops or after-market camber plate?

I've taken some pictures to try to help you out. If you are using a camber plate you will not need the upper spring perch adapter for the OEM strut top.

You should be 198MM preload from upper to lower spring perch at full droop. My picture is not great as I tried to hold and measure at the same time but maybe of some help.

If you are using a camber plate be sure you have a properly indexed upper perch from the manufacture.

There is a slight chance your sway bar could be holding up the ride height but I doubt it. You should be able to disconnect the endlinks at the anti roll bar with the weight of the vehicle on the ground and insert them back in the holes without having to preload the anti roll bar. If this is an issue you will need to adjust the end links length.

My car is showing 26" but my tape measure is slightly out (1/32) at the hook and I need to roll the car back and forth a bit. I typically measure with a metal ruler.
