Go look up the equation for frequency, its something like spring rate of a component, or stiffness, divided by mass, square root of that. Either way, changing mass changes frequency response of a system. Look up bmw 135i front calipers and look at that big chunk of mass on the top edges of the caliper. Audi r8 rear calipers too and finally go look at the new c63 amg rear pads, masses just like ours but not round.

Exactly, just like the big chunk of steel (dogbone) attached to the front of the differential on a Foxbody Mustang. The cheapest way to deal harmonics that cause vibration or noise is to give the component a different harmonic frequency.

As for the OP's question about sqealing brakes it shouldn't be happening. The 1LE doesn't use brake pads with a hard enough compound to consider noise normal. My C6 Z51 used specific friction material and they would squeal quite often.

Brake squeal is very common on all SS Camaros not just the 1LE optioned one.

There is not reason to take to a dealer. Bedding the brakes help. Other things to try are flushing the calipers when washing the car or change to a different pad.

All V8 Gen5 Camaros have pretty aggressive brake pads from the factory with I high metal content. (Heck washing the car or driving in the rain the pads will rust to the rotors when the car sits overnight.) This makes them noisy and dusty. My 2010 SS and my 2013 ZL1 both have made noise from time to time.

A good flush seems to help and a couple strong stops to seat the page.

This started happening to me (the exact thing Crand mentions). Brakes squeak when I'm NOT pressing them and stop squeaking when I am applying them.
I'm curious to see what helped in your situation? Did changing the pads make a difference at all? re-bedding them help?

A long time ago I put EBC greens on my brother's E36 M3 with great results. I think I'll give that a shot. If my brakes squeal, I'd at least like them to be doing something while they do.

I just saw the other thread related to this topic here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ghlight=squeal

I'm somewhat convinced now that this is the pads now...

Mine squeal a bit too. I've Read some other threads about it. Mine is really occasionnal and not loud though. From what I've read, its normal to have some noise at low speed because of the stock pads.

Mine squeaked a lot when braking slowly on the street. I'd try rebidding them. Since I went to the track and they got some heavy use, the squeaking hasn't come back.

in the owners manual there is a section that actually refers to a RACING/TRACK BRAKE BURNISH PROCEDURE. Section 9-8...maybe try that and see if helps with the squeal. So far I have not had any squealing on the 14.

I've already burnished the brakes according to this procedure back when the car had about 100 miles on it. I also took it to the track when it had approx 300 miles on it.

So the squeal is still there but it does not happen at all when I'm on the brakes. Only when I'm accelerating or steady driving. Turning does not seem to make a difference either. Also, I thought I heard it when backing up but not sure it's the same noise. car has about 4700 miles. Started doing it maybe 4300 miles.

Took it to the dealer once and drove with the tech and it would not happen.

Told me same thing, to burnish them again. So I guess I'll try that -again- and see if it comes back.

I'm sorry to bring back an old thread. I'm running into the same issue as Bozz1LE. An annoying and somewhat embarrassing squeak at low speeds (30~45mph). Has anyone with this problem been successful with the rebedding or pad replacement?

I've not been successful at re-bedding. It seems to go away with track use and then come back again. I'm thinking of trying to take the pads off and apply some stop squeal and see if that helps but have not gotten around to doing it yet.
