There is a difference between a hud windshield and a non hud, however I am going to respectfully disagree with your statement that it is a "no go". I have personally swapped in a hud from a 1990 pontiac turbo grand prix into a 1988 grand prix se 5 speed which did not come with hud and it worked fine. It is a little dim during the day, but if you crank the brightness and don't hook up the auto dimming wire which dims it when the headlights are on, it works fine.

My friend lorenzo gpse3400 over on 60degreev6 has done the same thing as have 2 of my other friends. They work fine and I plan to do the same thing with my 2010 camaro.

I will let you know how it works once I can get a unit from GM and the wiring!

well there is a right way to do something and a wrong way thats why the auto glass industry is full of a bunch of hacks. ya you can still see it but it looks like crap and we dont do it send them to the next glass company that will and youll be lucky if they primer the pinchwell just the type of people I want working on my car.

thats cool!

and for the record a 1288 will work fine in a 1289 car... we've been doing it for years... im sure one day, one of us will have to do a job for a used car lot and they won't want to pay for a hud windshield so we'll have install a 1813 in it.. we will know soon enough

we must get different windshields here in missouri or if theres something we need to do let me know I would love to make another 300.00 per windshield. from what i can remember the image just wasnt very bright or clear did not look good at all to try and get away with. Thats what we tried it on was the 1288 for a 1289

whoa whoa whoa, i know the right way to do my job, and i am by far not a hack. if you read above i posted that the customers could not afford the hud glass so they asked if i could install the non hud glass. my efforts in this post were to prove that the non hud windshield will work with a hud car. simple as that.

chances are, the person who owns the Grand Prix, isn't worried about the brightness of the HUD.... id be suprised if it still works

My drive home from work down I-94 puts me in a direct path with the sunrise. Wonder how well the display can be read on a bright sunny morning?

Should be an option to turn it off just like in the Vette. I drove a Vette around that had it, its neat for about 20 min or so.

Can you still see this with polarized sunglasses? Polarized sunglasses block all the glare from the dashboard.
