Trans Am ws6 vs. Camaro SS
I drive a 2010 camaro SS, and my friend drives a 2000 ws6 trans am. He is convinced that his car would beat mine. Both cars are bone stock. Tell me what ya'll think about the match up....

Yeah but the Trans-Am also weighs....3494.3lbs; that thing's dangerous if he gets any mods. I think the Camaro should pull it off in a stock vs stock match-up easily, given that the Trans-Am isn't getting nearly 300hp at the rear wheels but around what, 280,290 at most?
Camaro.

if its a manual and yours is an auto then he SHOULD have you beat by a lil. If theyre both autos then i think you might have a couple tenths or MPH on him. If both are stock of course.

If you've got the LS3 and can drive you should win. It is the faster car when looking at trap speeds and all recorded data thus far....no questions asked.
FWIW I beat a 420rwhp H/C 4th gen M6 with my car twice in a 40-130 race. (well documented on ls1 tech...other driver replied etc.) I also owned a 1998 ls1 camaro m6 car for 3 years which I built to H/C. Stock for stock I could definitely tell my 2010 was faster. L99...well if it is running good it should be neck and neck. The fastest recorded 4th gen is a 12.8 and so is the L99. Fastest traps are also about the same at around 108....VERY close match up. But chances are with a 6 speed car he isnt going to be that gifted and be able to drive that well (the 12.8 is VERY RARE)...so if I had to put money on it I would say L99 FTW. If it is auto vs auto you win. BUT...all this is what would/should happen on paper etc....that doesnt mean a whole lot. Anything can happen in an actual race. |

The final Trans Ams could pose a challenge. They had the Ram Air version of the LS1, created by ASC (earlier fresh air induction LT1s were by SLP), and the WS6 suspension was a serious chassis set. Around a road course a 4th gen T/A with WS6 could be a surprise.

Smith ran a 12.89 in a 1999 plain old z28. Look at the recorded data...(been a member of ls1tech for 6 years) As for on a road course...im sure it would do better than a non-ws6 car...but im not sure if it would be better than a 5th gen. |

You should beat him, Im in a car club full of trans ams. When I first got my camaro I raced a couple stock ones.
I even pulled a few a cars on a friend that had a lid, tune and a borla exhaust. Youll be pulling little by little from 0-80 but from 80 and above you'll pull at least 2-3 cars on your friend the 5th gen SS has a lot better top end than the WS6.
