Second time to the Strip
Hey guys, I'm just now getting around to posting about my runs because I really have some questions.
About a month ago I took my car to the drag strip for the first time and felt like I was getting a decent feel for the car. At this point the car had Stock Tires, CAI, LT Headers, PTB, and a Janetty Tune. Granted the temps were only about 85-90 with medium amount of humidity, the best I clocked was a 12.86@110mph with a 2.2 60'. I felt there was a lot of room for improvement to possibly get into the mid-low 12's with a good launch and more practice. Since that time, I had a cam installed (219/235 .607/.619 113LSA), 25% UD Pulley, electric exhaust cutouts, then had it re-tuned. So I thought I would definitely be hitting some low 12's and maybe even high 11's with a good 60'. I went to the track last night, temps were around 90-95 with pretty high humidity. The best I ran was a 12.595@111.78 with a 2.066 60'. I also ran a 12.628@111.85 with a 2.129 60'. I ended up being pretty disappointed to be honest. I know I need to work on my launch, but I definitely feel the car should be trapping more than 1 mph higher and 2 tenths faster...what do you think? Any advice or help is certainly appreciated! Go back in the late fall. When its 50 degrees. You'll never have good times in that kind of heat. If you correct your times for a DA of 2500 it's 12.2 @ 115.

You can use this link to calculate the DA on the days you raced, and then you can compare. For example if on the first outing it was 1000 DA, and this time it was 3000 DA, the old rule of thumb is that every 700 increase will slow the car down by a tenth and a mph:

Thanks, I will have to check out that dragtimes thing. I knew that humidity and temperature would both have an effect on times but I didn't realize it would be that much.
Here's a video of the 12.595 run...I know I red lighted it and I apologize for the voices in advance lol Last edited by SNSSTR; 06-28-2013 at 10:52 AM. Reason: added video |

So not much difference between the two which still makes me wonder why the addition of all those upgrades only helped by really 2 tenths. |

When you tuned the cam where did it peak compared to stock? The MPH tells the tale for me.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I handed over the keys to the car, had the cam and pulley installed, then was told a similar cam was installed on a camaro with similar mods to mine and that they used that as a base tune, then tuned it while driving and making some WOT runs.
It was not dyno tuned so I don't have any numbers or curves to show...guess that might need to be my next step? EDIT: there's not many shops around here I trust yet to dyno the car properly so that is why I didn't have it done initially. |

Rhino is great with 5th gens, good guy to have go over your tune.
I think you trapped about right for bolt-ons and low for the cam. I'd think 115-118 with the cam. Either shifting low, mechanical issues, or tune issues.

You need 2 things! Get with Rhino to look over your tune, AND you need some tires. Your 60ft is what's killing you! A better DA will help improve the ET and Mph over what you are now, but if your just spinning, your car will never perform the way that it could. Stock tires will be your weak link.

Get a proper tune and some drag radials. Then you should be in the 11's no problem.
