Looks like a nice car. The numbers aren't a big deal (btw, shouldn't that graph read 304 for the Camaro?), but the weight is significant. 350lbs will make the Mustang quicker stock vs. stock.

Of course my V6 will have shorty headers and a CAI. That should more than level the playing field.

Just remember that a 400 plus hp Camaro barely edges out the Mustang at 300 hp so even if the Camaro's power is increased it would have to be quit a big increase.

Err, no. The Camaro SS handily beats the Mustang GT in performance. Handily.

In comparisons, the Mustang only keeps up through subjective scores like "fun to drive".

315hp vs 304hp is a small but meaningful difference of 11hp even though the GM piece peaks 150rpm higher which does give the GM a bit more room to breath. Small advantage to Ford. And, while the 2ft-lbs of torque difference doesn't look like much initially upon closer inspection you'll see that the GM unit hits that peak at 5200rpm while the 3.7L Ford hits it at 3500rpm. A meaningful advantage to Ford, particularly in terms of low and mid range acceleration. Factor in the reality that the Mustang will weigh an easy 300lb less than the Camaro and, well, you have an advantage that exacerbates the two advantages already mentioned above.

If these power figures make it all the way through SAE certification, and to be fair sometimes they don't, the power difference is going to feel more like 50hp than 11hp. Put more plainly, odds are pretty good the 2011 V6 Mustang will be almost as fast as the current GT model. Absolutely no question, a car with specs like those would be a very solid, high 13 second vehicle in almost any drivers hands. A good pilot could almost certainly drive a vehicle with a power to weight ratio like the one above to mid 13's. That is flat out moving, pure and simple.

Honestly, good for Ford...

Like it was already said...Competition is always good and I think Mustangs are cool, but in my case they were a year too late to get my money (plus GM did an awesome job from the start on this car! ) and just because Ford is finally stepping its game up doesn't mean I'm going to feel buyer's remorse every time I climb into my SS or see a Mustang...

On the contrary we as Americans should feel even more proud that we are becoming more and more capable of producing cool, fast cars that aren't ridiculously pathetic on a global scale (whether it be V8 or even V6...Things are definitely changing and that's cool to me at least! )...I wonder if any attention is going to be paid to the suspension - that'll be interesting to see...

I love my SS and will continue to love it...And when I see Mustangs I'm going to just give them the thumbs up and say cool car in all sincerity because at the end of the day we do share some of the same passions for American muscle

You show me these imaginary number's where it handily beat's it. And I dont want to see a 1 or 2 second's. 1/4 mile not by much around the track again not by much, however like I said there is a 100+ hp difference so of course it won. For having 100 more horse it sure isnt a significant amount.

Almost forgot to add 5speed vs 6 so again I say show me.

I certainly hope that GM does improve the V6 while making it backwards compatible, of course!

thatss got to be a good run to 60 about 5.5 or even better. Im not sure it will have enough torque to hit 5.3 but it sure will kick my cars ass. IF imy v6 feels barely more powerful then my brothers 4.0, i cant imangine how quick 11 stang will feel.
I wonder what GM will do
And that cyote is going to be nice too. Kudos to Ford for finally waking up in the performance segmant.
Dont worry guys, we still have some good engines for the life cycles, Cherly even said that they are keeping the ls7 in mind for the cycles, by then ill have enough to upgrade to an SS so this is just a win for everyone.
I just wish GM couldve made the Camaro light( dont want to sart a debate just saying) I still love my car, cant beat its design.
the 2010 stang is still getting criticism about the rear end. Although i do say it grows on to you.
Just rememmber the crickets at the autoshow around the 2010 stang.

It doesn't completely destroy the Mustang like it should. It's only a couple of tenths faster than a track pack GT (which has better results in handling tests in all publications). The new interior is very nice also. But above all, it's got the Chally and Camaro beat hands-down in the weight department, and it looks like it's going to stay that way, but with more power.

Longevity might not be a problem if you only keep your cars 5 years, but to me, it's a big deal. Even IF the next Mustang is a little faster, it doesn't beat Camaro in overall long-term quality, and certainly doesn't beat it in looks.

I'll be sticking with the Camaro.

You make me laugh..........no really you do.

Besides... the Mustang can't Transform! LOL!
Sure it can. It can transform into a hulking, rusting pile of s**t in a record 1 year. Just ask that dude on the forums here with the Shelby GT500 that is rusting to hell. He was lobbying all Mustang owners to join his crusade. LOL!

Do you honestly believe that since Ford has put out these numbers for the 2011 MY that Chevy's V6 won't be better than this years??
