Highway miles are ok IF they can provide service records, and you can see that it is not ragged out nor beat to death. For a V8 car if it was properly maintained AND you had an independent source check it out 17-18k is not horrible imho. Also on a personal note i would not go for a newer V6 vs a higher mileage V8 car lol.

I wouldn't sweat 145K on an LS V8 drive train. Especially obvious highway miles.
Can't comment on price however. Not my best topic, lol.

Why would you want a car with that many miles on it anyway? I got my 2010 2ltrs with 36,000 miles for about 1500 more than that.

I don't think you can say with certainty that those are mostly highway miles. The math comes out to 100 and change miles per day, granted I am counting weekends and holidays. It is possible that it was some kind of delivery vehicle driving around some suburban area with frequent stops and hills and whatnot. Chances are remote, but it is possible. I don't think it's that hard to rack up 100 a day in a Camaro...if you were the delivery boy, wouldn't you be taking the long way each time?
That all being said, I wouldn't take the chance on it.

As soon as you saw the mileage, you should've kept looking.

If it was serviced and taken care of you should be able to go another 100K but the price needs to come way down imo.Could also be a good candidate for a killer build.

My opinion: If you are on a specific budget under 20k than a V8 Camaro wouldn't be a good purchase. Gas, maintenance, and insurance alone is going to hurt you. Get something else like a LT

why would a courier company buy a V8 Camaro? either its highway or road track mileage.

I say go for it if the price is supported by book values. I'm much more interested in the age of a car than the mileage of a car. A 15 year old car with 30K miles on it carries as much rust and as many maintenance issues as a 15 year old car with 300K miles on it. Maintenance is going to be the key with any car, at any age. If the car you're looking at is in good physical shape and has been properly taken care of, I would grab it.

I've never seen an SS Camaro used as a delivery vehicle so I would dismiss this as the reason for the car having high mileage.
More than likely, someone used this car primarily to commute to work and has become fearful of the 145k on the car. If this car was maintained properly, which is pretty easy to establish, then you have a solid car that should last you another 100k. Modern LS motors are excellent. 14K out the door. Not a red cent more. |
