cai questions

I was looking into getting a cai for my camaro and a few questions I have are

1. What is the best brand ? And if there is how?

2. Do I have to move the windshield washer fluid Tank?

3.how much of an increase in performance do you notice ?

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks

1) In my opinion CAI Inc intakes offer the best combination of quality, performance, and style. In addition to strong initial results, we have found that as supporting mods are added the CAI Inc systems continue to respond well and do not become a choke point like some other systems can.

2) No, it is not required. You can remove it and add a scoop and washer tank relocation kit to improve the already strong performance on the CAI Inc systems though.

3) We have consistently seen about 15 peak rwhp and 12 peak rwtq with slightly stronger average numbers on bone stock cars. You will feel and hear a difference. Like I mentioned before, adding a scoop and washer relocation adds even more sound and performance.

One note I would like to add, it is important to keep your expectations realistic when considering an intake all on its own. The intake is just one component in a very large system of systems. On its own there is only so much that can be gained if supporting components which limit the effectiveness of the intake are not also addressed. Only as those other components are upgraded will the full benefit of your upgraded intake be realized. If someone tells you their intake makes 50rwhp it should be an instant red flag.

Cai inc and vararam....you can get a roto fab ww tank if you choose to get a scoop.....My butt dyno says a good noticeable increase and sound and they say they yield like 14-16 rwhp

I can't say what is the best brand, but most seem to go with CAI inc, Vararam, Injen and Rotofab these days from what I see at shows around me.

I can tell you that I purchased the CAI Inc intake and love it. With it you do not have to move the washer fluid tank, however you can relocate and buy a scoop to increase performance with the CAI Inc intake. The gain is noticeable in the pull you feel over the stock box from the "butt dyno."

I can also confirm that the Vararam is also a respectable intake, through the experience of a few friends that are running it. Its uses a RAM Air approach to feeding the air. The only downfall of the Vararam is you have to cut the radiator brackets in order for it to install.

In general, any aftermarket intake will definitely help in performance. My only heads up in purchasing an intake is if you were to decide on K&N, I would search the forum for which is the best, because I do know one of their intakes was tripping the CEL.

Hopefully this helps you out.

On a side note, I noticed that you had CF stripes in your sig, would you have a picture of both. I've been thinking of doing CF stripes on my Synergy to replace the Cyber Gray. Still not positive yet.

If you're looking for an intake from a company who has done it all in the past, covers several models, does everything in house, who has an excellent reputation, then you need to look at AFE. I've had one on my personal car for years and it's always held up well, and did so for many many years.

Do you have a photobucket or Flickr account? If not that's cool. It'd just be nice to see what they look like.

They are by far the most popular intake systems we carry.

I have an Injen long tube, and have been very happy with it. That said, the CAI has been tempting me lately, especially come winter and having to contend with slush on the roads.

I love my CAI brand CAI. I love the whistle and the fact that it makes my car sound a LOT deeper at WOT. Just go with the CAI brand CAI and you won't be disappointed. ~15 RWHP AND 2-3 MPG increase = a great reason to buy it now!

Oh and their black powdercoated intake was reduced by $50 recently so you can have the polished aluminum looking one or the black one for the same price.
