Yep - get the girl a few hundred rounds of practice. I made sure mine could load / safely unload a round (I used an inert round initially) and had her repeat the process several times in a row before we even went to the range. My wife is the same size as yours and she loves my 9mm Beretta 92. After only a couple trips out, she needs no more help from me and can hit well enuf to kill someone at the ranges one would be shooting at in a house.

As to morals - she doesn't want to get robbed, raped or murdered -- so she says she's good with pulling the trigger until they don't move anymore. But no one can ever truly be certain of what they will do unless it actually happens to them. Hunting is one possible way of seeing a window into that by looking to see their reaction and if they are squemish, cry, etc. after they shoot some game and realize it's dead.

Have you thought about her trying a Judge?
They are coming out with .410 defence rounds that look pretty nasty.

My brother-in-law bought one of those and the hammer was defective. Nice gun though otherwise...

Also, teach them failure drills, such as what happens when it goes "click" instead of "boom."

http://www.defensivehandguntraining....-malfunctions/

Also teach them to reload the weapon (with an empty gun and empty magazine) in the dark. They should be able to go by feel and not sight. Lasers are nice but should never replace good shooting principles. When you get back, teach her point shooting. Since people react how they train, if she is used to looking for a red dot and it isn't there (battery died, didn't turn it on, etc) she may hesitate.

And ya I may work with her on some drills so she's prepared. Good idea
You're welcome and if you have Dish or DirectTV you can also try watching some Guns & Ammo Self Defense TV. I forgot what time it comes on, but if I remember right the channel is called The Sportsman Channel.

True that, seems like nowadays if the criminal survives, they or their lawyer tries to make it seem like you're a violent killer, so much that there was an article in BLACK GUNS magazine about keeping a "simple" iron sighted AR 15 just for self defense. Basically he was sayin simple is easily defensible in court. I didn't worry about it back in my old hometown since most of the 900 people living there were in favor of guns.

I guess I'll stop there since it's getting into politics.

He told me that was the best damn answer he ever heard.

I tell ya what I did, I got a M&P airsoft gun (same as my carry gun)..... its spring powered, so you've got to rack it each time (since I can't say **** in here)..... great for firing, simulating clearing a jam etc and getting back on target. Also good for the backyard, same ergos as the real thing too

That is a good idea.

If none of you have ever been to a defensive handgun class GO! I attended an advanced Safariland school a couple of weeks ago. It was a blast (literally). About 1k rounds in two days with many, many different shooting situations and a lot of friendly competition.

No direct experience, but if it's anything like other H&K products, the quality is there. I'm not a fan, personally, as there are other weapons with the same quality, reliability and ergonomics, for less money. That said, I wouldn't turn one down if the price was right, and I won't worry about it working if one was issued to me.

Love the snake!! The boy want's a Luger, but not in the budget right now, lol. As far as the Les Baer, sweet little package.

Speaking of 1911s, I don't have the photos off the camera yet, but today a friend and I redid my Charles Daly with nickel-teflon and moly-teflon coatings. Looks sweet as hell, I have some fitment issues, as well as some feeding issues. Nothing a little Dremel won't cure, lol.

Since I mentioned my CD 1911EFS....

So, several months back, I traded for this Charles Daly 1911EFS. I quickly, for giggles, threw on the Boondock Saints grips, as well as the bushing comp. Only mods done were polishing up the hoop, sear, disconnector, and hoop track, for a smoother pull. Also, as you can see in the pics, I had slimmed up the slide lock, as it was too wide to fit into any of my holsters.

Well, I since added a front Trijicon night sight, and in doing so, had to do a little trimming. So the finish wasn't so nice, around the sight. As it's an inexpensive pistol to start with, and a friend does nickel-teflon, as well as moly-teflon, coatings, I thought the CD would be a great candidate for refinishing. So, into the sandblaster it went. And a few hours later.....

It came out with nickel-teflon small parts, the mag release, slide lock, safeties, beaver tail and mainspring housing. The lower frame is black moly-teflon, while the slide is nickel-teflon on the inside, coyote tan moly-teflon on the outside. A set of VZ grips now adorn the pistol, and while stainless screws came with the grips, they were of the wrong pitch to fit the bushings.

I had to polish the rails a bit afterwards, and prior to the new coatings, I had polished the feed ramp/barrel throat. So, what do ya think? Future mods that are planned are a new fire control group, and magwell. Maybe, lol.

Anyway, thought I'd share. I haven't shot it yet, since refinishing. But for a cheap 1911, it's fit is excellent, and now it has a finish to match, IMHO.

I wouldn't fill the whole clip with them. From my self defense training and in law enforcement training we're taught that in such situations the first two shots is what matters. This is when you're more likely to hit the assailant before the adrenaline kicks in.

What we do for all of our hand guns is load one in the chamber and first in clip with critical defense, next 4 with a good hollow point like golden sabre, then the rest just regular rounds.
