2012 LS to LT upgrades. Is this a sound idea?
Hey everyone, first time posting, and planning on buying my first camaro later in the winter.
I plan on getting a manual 2012 1LS and upgrading parts overtime to get it to the LT level. I hope to upgrade to the 19in bright aluminum wheels, add the 4-pack gauge cluster in the center console, add fog lights, and add the rally hood stripes. I'll be able to handle installation of everything except mounting tires to the new wheels and adding the stripes. Do you guys think I have the right idea in doing this? I think it'd be cheaper in the long run than buying a 1LT or 2LT. If you have any other suggestions please let me know! |

I went a similar route with the 1SS. All I wanted was the V8 and the RS package. I am adding everything else that I want as I go. It's a lot more fun, and you can make everything the exact way that you like it.
When I first started looking, I was leaning toward the LS. After driving both and seeing all the trim levels, I pulled the trigger on the v8. If I had went with the v6, it would have been the LS. Hope this helps.

Buy the car you are trying to build instead of adding parts.

The 1LT also adds power seats for driver and passenger which is a plus with these cars so you may want to just spend the extra money and get a 1LT

Only thing I would consider is getting the 20" rims from someone with an SS or RS...Those are "READILY" available for sale...if you look right now theres probably 4 sets of wheels/tires for under a grand in the classifieds. 19" are an odd size so tires will cost more too. the 20" look better imop anyways and can be had for the same price if not cheaper... |

I am sort of doing this with my 1lt RS. I knew I wanted the RS package for the wheels, spoiler, no antenna, HID/halos, etc. BUT, I wanted to add my own touches to the interior. Like Katskinz 2-tone leather seats, Upgraded DVD/Nav audio system, custom dash kit and door trim, etc.
If you plan on doing CUSTOM stuff in your own colors and styles, It would be better IMO to get a package that doesnt have them so you aren't "buying it a second time" when you upgrade to your own custom choices. IE, why pay for leather seats when I am just going to buy my own custom leather seats next spring? But if you are going to buy an LS, then put exact stock LT stuff in it, it would make more scence to just buy an LT.
