As much as I hate to say it, with the release of the ZL1, I too, am starting to feel the 6th gen is when we'll see the return of the z28. That being said, I think GM will pour more into it, then they did with the ZL1 as it will be the main point of the next generation, knowing how long many have waited for it.
If we do have to wait til then, I know we won't be disappointed, if they rush it for the 5th gen, there will be some issues.

Interesting. I personally feel without the extensive use of carbon fiber, ala the z06/zr1 the z28 is best suited to wait until the lighter weight Alpha platform comes out. Then use the same di motor that is in the 'Vette at that time ( happy dg? ). Give it some model specific handling improvements, offer a standard street version and a track version (with the requisite delete options).

I would like to see the LS7 motor in the Z28 with a LSX block, LSXDR heads, and, a aggressive cam. That way you could spray the motor, or add turbos if you wanted because the block & heads would hold the power, combined with a Super light weight body. Keep the weight at 2900 to 3100 LBs. Come on Chevy lets produce a really mean!!!!! all out pony killer once and for all.

Thinking like a GM higher up....
SS=Base Vette Z28=Z06 ZL1=ZR1 So i'm going with the same idea as pretty much everyone else. However, I'm pretty sure it's been said several times that the LS7 is near the end of it's life. Everything is there to build a proper Z28.... ...Except the engine. Do they use a retuned LS3?? A new Gen 5 DI V8 sounds like the ticket to me, but who knows...

They started a Z28 thread today on the SS/V6 board based on info from jalopnik.
