Factory Exhaust Option SPECULATION!!!!
Maybe this will help us while away a Sunday afternoon. Does anybody think we will get the dual stage exhaust as an option on the SS? It is about a $1600 option on the 08 vette if my memory serves me correctly.
I need to use the car as my daily driver for logistics reasons. I want it to be quiet during my daily snooze back and forth to work, but would love for it to attract attention when I get on it. I will probably lease as well, so getting it from the factory or as a dealer installed option would be a plus for me. I will admit up front that I am speculating, but I would value others opinion on the subject. I am also not trying to say something negative about others ideas for any number of aftermarket options. The ability to customize YOUR car is one of the great things. If it doesn't come from the factory, I am sure that it will probably be available in the aftermarket as well. Here is the basis for my speculation: (1) At least one veiled reference from a disciple on one of the boards about GM having some cool things for us in the exhaust department. Is it a factory option or a GMPP option, unknown. (I don't have the link, before you ask, but it was not this board that I remember it from!) (2) It is an LS3 after all, I am sure the paths and connection points would be different for sure, but it would be a variation on theme and not a total re-do. (3) The exhaust if made by company here in Ohio whose name I cannot recall at the moment, but they do offer a similar option for other cars like Mustangs, etc. (4) Perhaps most interestingly, and I am connecting dots here that may NOT need to be connected, I have seen ESTIMATES of the output of the LS3 with the manual of 414 and 420 hp. That is interesting because that is the difference in hp (6) that the Vette gets. I am not saying it wouldn't be available on the L99 or with an auto, but I have seen that difference between the estimates from a couple of the published pieces. Don't have anything that I have seen that makes me think that it will be offered with the V6, but there is also nothing that says it could not be. Let the speculation and banter begin..What does everybody think???? |

Well, I can pretty much be sure that both models will receive a true dual exhaust....at least on the V8. But, I think...on the V6 too.

I'd certainly be interested in the Vette's optional dual-stage exhaust. Its feasible that it could be in the car, but GM might want to keep it Vette-exclusive to further cement the Vette's status in the lineup.

Could be, but there is no meaningful difference in the HP of the LS3s between them, maybe it will be different, will be fun to see....Its made by a third party so you could get it aftermarket when they have it, people even make remotes to open up the butterfly at any RPM and complete kits to upgrade a vette that does not have it

This is a Camaro, not a Corvette. You will have to do it yourself, and it ought to be a nice mod to do. Here's what you'll need:
Electric cutout.

Anyone who pays $1200 for 6 hp should have their head examined.

I think y'all should read Tag's comment again... and note that he didn't say anything about any butterfly exhaust openers.

OMG; that's funny sh*t!!! ROTFL!!!
IMHO, I think there is a chance for this, although, I wouldn't be interested in it. I'd save that $1K+ for a larger catback, either from GM or the aftermarket. I don't particularly like the company it seems GM was using for catbacks (the tips on those catbacks look suspicioulsy like Corsa tips, thus I think Corsa makes the systems for GM, and just don't like how those mufflers sound.) If GM's assumed catback does sound good, I'd likely go with it unless it was way more expensive than Magnaflow or Borla catbacks. I already see that Magnaflow has dual 3-inch systems for G8s and although they drone a little more, produce a little more power than their 2.5-inch systems. I just figure a little larger system like that would be good for my plans to pulley-up, add a CAI, and dyno' tune. Well, assuming we get a variation on the LSA. Right now, I have an electric cutout (QTEC) in my Borla catback and love it. I can go from somewhat stealthy (although it's not very stealthy at WOT with LTs, LOL) to I can hear you two miles away when open (and yes; I have confirmed this with my brother, LOL.) So, if we don't get it as an option, the suggestion previously posted would be a great alternative. You don't even have to get dirty anymore to open or close your cutout(s).
