Radar Detector.
Im sure this has been talked about a billion time. But i cant make up my mind on a radar detector. Escort or v1. With the escort i can not update it because i dont have a windows computer only macs. Also i have looked at blend mount for mounting but how to power the detector is my next question.

I had the V1 for a few months, but I got sick of all the false alarms it gets. So I upgraded to the passport 9500ix and am VERY satisfied with the improvements. I get very few false alarms now and as far as I can tell, it's range is no different than the V1. Plus being able to switch between city and highway mode improves it's performance, and being able to turn off that annoying x-band is extremely handy for when you're driving in town. I think it's worth the extra $ personally.
Here's what I used to power it through my mirror And here's how to install it I don't use a blend mount because I don't want to lose visibility. I just use the suction cups and put it right next to my mirror, you don't even notice it there, and it looks very clean. |

Powhusku, there is a better way to mount it, and it doesn't kill your view. in the picture on the site, it shiows in on the pasanger side, but it fits both ways, as I put in on the drivers side....much easier to see it adn if you ever need to change any settings, its handy. Its up adn out of the way.....and I really do hate the suction cup mount.

9500ix for me. I use a bracket that mounts to the rear view mirror and looks clean and doesn't shake around like the ones that mount to the windshield with suction cups. Hard wired it in my Silverado crew cab and ran the wires from the fuse box up through the A pillar to the rear view mirror and down through the bracket. Very clean and not noticeable at all, looks like part of the mirror. Radar Roy at www.radarbusters.com shows how to hot wire the units. here's a link to a bracket that I have in all three of my vehicles so I can transfer the Escort. http://countryjoycrafts.com/Connecto...rDetector.html |

My V1 is very false alarm prone. I like that it tells e where the signal is coming from, though.

The direction signals of the V1 are a neat feature, but mine broke after a week and wouldn't give me any front signals. I returned it and ordered a passport. It's been phenomenal!!!!!
I also ordered a blend mount and invisi cord as well!!! Awesome set up and I love it!

Im sorry but whenever a post has "Im sure this has been talked about a billion time" at the beginning, that tells me there wasnt even an attempt at searching....not to mention there is a huge thread in the sticky section........

Hmmm... thats funny. I went throught that whole sticky thread and saw no pics of an install. Especially of the unit I am talking about. I'm not looking for a radar detector, I have already decided on one. But thanks for letting me know about the sticky..
