Axe for G8; Will the bird fly back?
According to Leftlane News, the General is planning on killing the G8 in five years and going back to the old platform sharing days. Does this mean we may see the Firebird by the time we make our last payment on our 60 month loan on our 5th gen? I mean, that's some major speculation. Five years is a long time to predict something like this. Could be a load of for all I know.

Supposedly it's not very cost-effective to continue production of the G8 and Solstice. Both rear wheel drive cars may be going.

And what do you mean "old platform sharing days?" That's what we're still doing. Malibu, G6, Aura...all Epsilon I.

Just letting the community know about future GM plans is all I'm doing. I'm not trying to make a heated debate. Useful information and something to look forward to if you prefer the Trans Am.

The rumor mill has been turning out Firebird rumors for a while. It is possible that the Camaro's success would bring back the Firebird, but only time and fbodfather will tell.

5 years from now..... we could have a miracle fuel technology present itself and radically change engine design.
too long to even start speculating.

Coming out with the Firebird would be a very poor business move. All that marketing and parts for less than 100K sales. Not worth it.

Think of the Firebird as a replacement G8. That would justify the transition of some Camaros to the Pontiac division plus extra production. The combined production of Zeta II cars would be the same as G8 plus Camaro numbers for next year.

Why would they replace a 4 door car with something that barely has a backseat?

You're right. It wouldn't be a direct replacement, but it would represent a performance machine, like the G8. From a sales standpoint, the Firebird could be advertised very much like the G8 except for rear seating room.

Onward and Upward.

I've been essentially out of the loop since I've been away from the states for over a year, but how have G8s been selling? I know that searching through dealer inventories in the St. Louis area have netted me maybe 1-3 G8 GTs in any given month. Have they not been selling? I'd be trading in my TBSS for one if I had a chance of not going upside down on the deal.
